Thursday is My Holiday, What's yours?

I used to work in a local Industrial Estate where weekly holiday was scheduled on Tuesday, my maternal uncle still works in a company where Monday is the day, and my elder brother, who is associated with Automobile Industry, enjoys his holidays on Thursday. In each of the above cases, Sunday/Saturday is being treated as a regular working day. So, each Thursday my elder brother reminds me -'Hey! Where are you going? - It's a perfect holiday bliss today!' Incidentally, my friends must not confuse that I'm in Public Service, and I have two official holidays - on Saturday and Sunday. What is your holiday, if other than the normal weekends? How will you react, if you were instructed to join official duties on weekends and taking a break in the middle of a busy week?

Since I am from india, we have the weekly holiday of "Sunday". in the recent days, due to the Power cut problem for the time being for the period of 3 months, our area the local holiday has been announced as "Monday".. But this was only the Temprorary only, for the every area, the holiday has been differ.. The power cut will be sheduled in different days in different places.. so, the holiday will be sheduled according to the power cut days.. Have a good day.

Oh! It is a good policy to combat power cut but may not be that much great for you. You can't schedule anything - no weekend plan!

hi nilzerous! so you mean, aside from your regular weekend breaks, you have your Thursday holiday? we don't have something like that. i work in a government agency and our official holiday is during weekends. of course we have the regular holidays like Christmas, Independence Day, National Heroes Day, All Saint's Day, etcetera. but we don't have a weekday holiday like yours. it would be nice if we have one. if we have one i wouldn't mind working on a weekend. but since we don't, i', against working on a weekend since it is the only time i can have a good rest. and i'd definitely welcome a break in the middle of a busy week! that would be a good way to charge my "battery".

No. Not me, my elder brother enjoys it. Obviously he goes to office on weekends. Each Sunday he'll scream - "Hey! Why are you sitting idly? Today is a full work day." - and on Thursday he'll insist us to sit back at home and relax!

My holidays are the usual weekends - Saturdays and Sundays. There are rare times that I have a holiday at the middle of the week - maybe Wednesday or Thursday depending on the workload. Yes, there were several times in the past that I reported for work on saturdays and even Sundays. But I don't have complaints as I feel it more peaceful to work with no one in the office but me. I prefer to work in a noise-free environment. I don't fancy much a noisy work environment , it distracts me. And yes, the pay is double the normal, so what more could I ask for?

Same with me; I prefer to work in silence - difficult on a busy working day - but my office does not allow us to go on holidays! Obviously, I continue to work till late hours of night - it's bit scary environment as a huge building complex built few hundreds of years ago and nobody around; we are at the fifth floor; security stay at the ground floor; but I like silence as it helps me to be accurate. We do not get overtime though, no incentive as well - yet, I do not find it difficult to stay, if situation demands so.
