i ever suffered earache because i liked to clean my ear by cotton swab. It is very comfortable when cleaning the ears, but several hours i suffered earache. I give up the habit of cleaning ears, the ache decrease and disappear soon. If it is not serious, why not let it be.

You're really not supposed to clean your ears with a cotton swab, or with anything. I know a lot of people do it, I've done it myself, but it's not recommended because you can do damage to your ear drum.

It is OK to clean your ears with cotton buds but do not push the cotton buds to near to your ear drums. we still need to clean our ears because if we don't we can get ear infection. Bacteria will feed on your ear wax and it will actually colonize in your earn and they will cause infection. It is recommended that you clean your ears thrice a week. We still need earwax so that it will trap foreign bodies so it cannot enter our inner ear but not too much ear wax tat is why we need to clean it thrice a week.

And one thing... Yes, try to take Tylenol for pain and it has an anti inflammatory effect. Your inner ear is now swelling because it is painful. Aspirin is also good but just be sure that you don't have allergies to the medications that we have mentioned here.

Have you tried taking Motrin or Tylenol? A lot of times it doesn't occur to people to take a normal pain reliever for an earache, but they work. I'm not saying it will get rid of the pain totally, but it should lessen it.
