A pill that has the same result as a workout!

I just saw on the news that a pill has been developed which tricks the body into reacting the same way as if it had done a proper physical workout. It's been tested on mice, but is yet to be tested on humans, so it's not going on the market just yet. What are your thoughts about this?

I personally think it sounds great. I will sign up to be in human trials. Granted it isnt going to be exactly the same as an excercise program, but anything that is going to be helpful in the battle to combat obesity, I'm going to be in favor of.

I agree! I think that we do need something to help. Society has changed from the days when we had to hunt for and gather food. Most of us don't exercise the way our bodies were originally designed for - there just isn't the time (or space) for a lot of people. If this can help our bodies get and stay healthier - why not? Thanks for your response!

Yes, a lot of pills do have side effects! I guess that's why it's best to wait until things have been tested properly. To me it's a matter of weighing up (for want of a better expression) the benefits of such a pill against the problems it might cause. Overall, if it worked, I think it could make a real difference in a lot of lives.

If it is like any other weight loss pill, it won't work unless you watch your calorie intake also. And if you are watching your calorie intake, you will loose weight regardless. I would try it if it came out...I'm game for anything:)

That is true, but it supposedly simulates a physical workout, so if you took it, you would automatically be burning more calories. Therefore, even if you kept eating exactly the same as before, you should start to lose weight. I think it sounds interesting, but am very glad they are going to do more tests before releasing it to the public!

This sounds highly skeptical to me. For years I thought "ok, I can lose weight if I take this pill or that pill". Well after lots of money lost and about 2 pounds gone, I have decided that the only thing that really works is a balanced diet and exercise. I know everyone wants to lose significant weight without exercise but it is simply not possible. I of all people, did not want to do this...I wanted a quick fix for my weight problems. I started running and working out and I actually get excited about doing it the next day. One word...endorphins. They are amazing and will definitely help keep you motivated in your weight loss program. Good luck!

I think a lot of people will feel the same as you. According to the news story, it has been tested on mice and it did work. I do think a real workout must be more beneficial overall, because so much of the body is involved. However, I understand that the pill actually simulates exercise, so the endorphins would be released just as if you had exercised. I'm thinking that this would be of enormous assistance to people who have stopped exercising - to get them to start again. There is a problem with obesity in many countries, and if this helps, I'm all for it. Congratulations on your weight loss.

If it worked it would be great. They would have to prove it to me.

That's exactly how I feel, plus they'd have to prove it was safe. You don't want people having heart attacks on it because their bodies aren't used to exercise.

Even this proposed pill will be in the market, I think there's nothing more rewarding than a physical exercise because it not just only burn calories, it moisturizes your skin through sweat and makes your lungs more tougher.

That is a good point. I'm not sure how the pill works, and how much your body reacts. I think it might be a good supplement to exercise for people who find it hard to find time or live in areas where it is difficult to exercise safely.

I found the story online: http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?MenuID=158&ContentID=88573 Why do you need to go to the hospital to do a workout? Don't answer if it's too personal ... I'm just being nosey!
