How do you drive safely at night?

At night, even with light on, it isn't always easy to drive safely because sometimes the road sign isn't clear, the light isn't the brightest, some cars drive with headlights off, and etc... I could be wrong but substantial car accidents happen at night as they do during the day. Personally, knowing all that, I try to avoid driving at night but in some occasions, I must drive. Could anyone provide me with tips on how to drive safely at night? What should I watch out for driving at night? Thanks in advance for any insights.

i try to not drive at night unless i have to, then it be more likely an area that i know well, gives me headache as we need to concentrate more on the road.. I find its the other cars with their headlights that is problem if you look at them, as dazzling, almost blinds me so i have to look just straight ahead, the worse is if they have their full lights on and flick them off too late.. As say, i just long ahead and concentrate on road ahead and take it easy.. Not so bad if street lights. Worse time was when coming home from my mums and suddenly become very foggy also, was river bank one side, with no barrier and NO middle road markings, hardly any street lights either as was kind of back road, was scarey and never wanted to do that again lol if like that or lack of street lights then just need to drive bit slower and sod anyone behind you, your safety comes first

In many ways I think night driving is safer. You can see another car is coming from round the corner or over the hill because you can see the headlights. One tip for night driving - never look at the headlights of a car coming towards you. Just look to the side of the car and you won't be so blinded.

I don't think there is more accident during the morning time as compared to night. The major cause of accidents are negligence and tis increases during the night as most of the people think that the traffic is less during the night time. More over, one has to me more vigilant while driving in the night.
