I think we should respect the local customs there for example the habit of giving tips and dressing wise for some Muslim countries. Searching on internet of tips for culture and local customs before visiting a country is highly recommended. However, globalization has led to some standard customs like greetings like hello and thank you is understood by many, so some of our own culture can still be practised. Besides, if some of the race who cant eat, so we cant be eating pork in China, the local people should know generally these rules too when they see visitors. But often, when you are in Rome, try to do as Romans, it just shows the respect for the country and people there.

thx,it is a practical suggestion not to offend different culture in a way that we are proprely dressed.the understanding of its culture in comparison with our own is half done when we step onto a new land.

When I go to a Muslim place I respect the local people by covering my arms and legs with clothing. I kept all my clothes on whilst on the beach in Jordan but I had my swim wear on whilst on the beach in Israel. If I went to a Muslim country during Ramadan I would not be seen eating during the day. I would take my shoes off before going into a building if the local people did this. I wouldn't want to offend anyone. I have a vegan diet so the local people usually don't know what that is. I keep to that diet no matter what the local people eat. I love animals and think that bull fighting is very cruel so I would go to see that. If local people litter the ground I throw my rubbish in a bin. I care about the environment. I like to be a responsible traveler that observes local customs to some degree that is respectful to the local people and caring towards the native wildlife.

When you visit a new country, you are supposed to follow rules prevailing there, which may differ from that of your country. It is not that you should follow their culture which is not possible at all. You are not expected to do what Chinese do in their country and vice versa. As far as possible try to follow rules, without losing identity. If you spit on road, you don't get punished in many countries, but if you do it in Singapore, you are in for trouble!

Every place has a different set of rules and norms. I think we should observe the local customs and rules otherwise we my hurt the religious sentiments of the locals. Its not a big deal to try to be like the natives if they have certain good qualities. And if the have something bad, just ignore it, one does not need to comment on it.

It's nice to learn, follow and respect some of the customs. However at the same time one has to be very careful at understanding and properly following these customs. You could quite easily get youself into an embarassing situation.

yeah, what you said makes sense. i think it is a mixing of both actually, local people and visitors should respect each other.they should somewhat compromise to show respect of each other. but i think the local flavor takes an upper hand,it cannot be troubled by those outside visits, visitiors shouldn't intrude on local people's pravicy.

I think that if people want to only stick with their own customs, they can stay home. Also, the people who are the least likely to adapt in another country, thinking the locals should adapt for them, will be the least likely to adapt when the locals come their way, and visit them in their country. So yes, when it China, do as the Chinese do.

It is nice to follow the local custome. It gives you a sense of belongingness. Though it may take sometime to adopt to local customs and to the the local people, but once you adopt yourself accordingly, you feel better and more confident at that particular place.

For me, being aware is enough. You don't have to do exactly what the locals are doing. Singapore was the only country I visited aside from home and since its a multirace, multicultural nation, there are different customs and traditions that you can see. Being respectful of what they do is one way of making your trip smooth. I don't indulge myself into food adventure not only because I don't have that much money but I am not really into food tripping.
