Princess Chunk, whose real name is Powder, is a victim of the mortgage downfall. His (yes, his - they didn't know she was a he) home was foreclosed and his elderly owner didn't know what else to do with him. The shelter is receiving 15 calls a day to adopt the corpulent cat, so he won't be without a home for much longer. He's even a TV star now having appeared on Regis and Kelly (where a vet discovered his proper gender).
(Thanks, Kelly!)

So, my question is this (for this to be a valid discussion): does knowing kitty's history change your original perception of the story in any way? AND - if you were his owner, what would you have done?

LOL--I heard about this story, and have seen photos of the chubby guy..LOL. Poor kitty, feel really badly that he was abandoned by his owner. I'm so ticked off about this. I actually did a discussion about this sometime ago, that the newest victims of foreclosure are pets people have owned...they just leave them...sometimes locking them up in closets so people won't know there are pets inside the abandoned home. I think it's SO wrong. If you know your home is going into foreclosure, and perhaps you can't take the pet along, at least bring it to an animal shelter. Anyone who abandons a pet like this in my eyes is doing animal cruelty

I don't know - I suspect the person was old school believing cats could survive on their own and that it was better that way than to go to a shelter. They did come forward, at least, so they didn't think what they did was wrong - that's why I think that. I'm glad he's identified, anyway, and he has loads of potential homes on the list!

If for some reason I had to get rid of my cat I would never just turn it loose on the streets or leave it behind at the house. I would try to find someone to take my cat who loved her and would take care of her or I would find a no kill shelter and explain to them why I had to get rid of her and let them find a home for her if I couldn't. I did see him on Regis and Kelly yesterday morning, a very pretty cat.

That is so sad. I bet the owner and the cat really miss each other. It must have been heartbreaking for them. I'm sure the cat will get a good home but what about the man? It makes me so sad to see these types of situations happen in this day and age. It is truly unfortunate for all. In the best of all worlds I would like to see the man reunited with his kitty.
