What's your thoughts of that?My sister always tells me about this,i'm wondering alaso if this two words differ. We know that duties are the things we need to do because we are ought to do so.Responsibilities are also things that we are suppose to do!!I'm kinda confuse in what matter they differ each other. Can someone tell me about this?

I remember a similar issue came up once in a lecture by Robert LeFevre. He tried to make the distinction between the words "responsibility" and "obligation". He pointed out that although the two had come to mean almost the same thing, they didn't always. The difference, he claimed, is in the tense. Responsibility, he claimed, was a past tense word. To be responsible for something is to have caused a given effect. It's sort of like saying, "you had/were assigned the power over X, therefore, whatever happened with X is due to you" Obligation, he claimed, is future tense. It is something that we choose. If you have an obligation to X then in the future you will be "responsible" for X.

I think basically the two words mean the same thing, but I'd personally say they differ in that duty is assigned to you (say your job, for example), whereas responsibility is not really being forced on you by a higher authority, it's just the things you know or SHOULD know you should be doing.

hi philjas!!you say that duty is like for a job that you should do?ah ok it's in the authority? In somehow i think that it's the same but if we analyze we see that it's not actually the same. Thanks for your response!!

they are diferent...duties are things that we are suppose to do ...like children has their duties to study...but responsibility covers all the people around us...e.g:it's the responsibility of my class leader to submit all of our notes...these words seem to have the same meaning but they are different
