I've been suffering a bad cold these days. There are a lot of discomfort, headache, running nose, cought, sore throat and my voice has gone. And I could not attend my oral english class and keep my mind on work. Every time when I cauth a cold, I have to take medicine especiaaly the antibiotics , otherwise my sputum and nasal mucus would become purulent. What about you guys? Do you usually take some medicine?

If i catch cold, normally i ignore it! After a day or two, it gets better usually. If it continues beyond two days and not tolerable, then i visit my physician for consultation.

Usually it would take one week or more to recovery. The cold would get better after one or two days for you, which means your immune system is very powerful.

Nah, I try to avoid taking medicine. Every medicine, after all, has a negative side effect. Antibiotics, especially; your immune system can become dependent on them. I, personally, never took any antibiotics until I was age 17 (I blame my weakened immune system on smoking -- or myself, for starting smoking).

Smoking is not a good habit but sometimes it is really difficult to quit.I am curious that you are so young and have started to smoke. Is there any reason to make you do that?

hi runahead, long time not see you. how are you now? i hope you have recovered from the terrible cold. i never took a medicine to cure the cold when i was young.i just let it be and i recovered as time went by but as i turn to be an adult gradually,it seems my immunity system is weaker and weaker.i have to take medicine every time to cure it.

when I was in college studying medicine ,my profesor told us no need to take medcine when you caught cold because you will be fine after 7 days whether you take or not .but that only for you just in cold .if you have acompanied symptom like infection ,you must take some medcine . unfortunitly ,we always have accompanied symptom when we catch cold .

Absolutely! I used to have the same opinion when i was in the college while studing medicine. I thought water therapy would be enough for the virus cold. But soon afterwards I found that there would be a secondary bacteria infection for me There were purulent sputum and severe cough and then it would recover quickly if I took efficient antibiotics for 2 or 3 days.

Colds are cause by a virus (picornavirus)so there are no medications to colds, just increase your fluid intake so that your natural body defense or your immune system will kill the virus. antibiotics will not help because its for bacteria not for virus.

You are so professional! But the situation is different for me. At the initial stage ,it is still a virus infection. But several days later, there would be a secondary bacteria infection and then I have to take antibiotics. It is always like that.

I used to be like that. I popped a pill in my mouth for any little symptom from a headache to a cold. Now I have gone a bit holistic and I have not gotten a cold in over a year. When I feel the slightest symptom of a cold coming on I take Echinacea with Goldenseal and Cat's Claw. It works like a charm!! Antibiotics are not good for us. They are killing the good bacteria with the bad and after many years our immune system weakens and becomes more and more resistant to them. Not to mention they have been linked to higher risks of getting cancer. BE CAREFUL!!

You're right that antibiotics would kill both bad and good bacterias .If there are other choices ,I prefer not to take it.
