WAR - way of keeping down number of population ?

August 2, 2008 8:23am CST
Somebody said to me that "war is a natural way for earth to prevent overpopulation. If we didn't have II world war and all the wars in Africa there would be much bigger poverty in today's world". I don't agree but what do you think.

war is not a natural way in any aspect to reduce our population. i agree with the first response. it is driven not by nature but by our greed, self-centeredness, and insecurity. i think the argument is simply giving an excuse or justification for war, when in fact, it is not justified at all. even the just war, looking back, i am not sure if it is worth it. there must be some other way to acheive what we want through peaceful means.

I had the biggest quarrel with that person. I think it is the most inhuman way of looking at life. Thanks

It's an extremely sad and sick expression. It is not a natural way at all. It's our greed, self centredness, power craziness which results in war. It's the same reasons that there is poverty, because of the non uniform distribution of wealth.

I have heard that before, and I don't believe that to be a true statement. A higher power keeps our population down by having natural disasters such as earthquakes and old age. War is in noway natural at all. It's a selfish way for men to over power each other and act like their country is better than others. I agree with an above statement that if wealth was distributed evenly than we would not have wars. It's all about money and power.

I can't say I have heard of anything like that in all of my life. I think it is ridiculous to think something like that. Of all the reasons for war that have come up this one takes the cake. I am not a believer in war but keeping the population down is done everyday unfortunately with all of the other senseless killings that go on here in this world.
