Today is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day is a time to enjoy a cold sandwich.......an ice cream sandwich. In July and August, we find many special days for one kind of ice cream or another. The ice cream sandwich is so popular, and tastes so good, that it earns its own special day....today. Ice cream sandwiches have been around since the early 1900s. Vanilla, chocolate and a combination of the two, are the most popular. You can make homemade sandwiches. Just put some ice cream between a couple wafers, and.. ...Voila! Don't have wafers? That's okay. Put some ice cream between two of your favorite cookies. We hope that you have a great National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. I actually have some of these stashed in my freezer! I want to know why ice cream sandwiches don't taste like they use too. When I was a kid the sandwich part was crisper. Now they are not.

Love those delectable delights. I have had only one this summer. It made me want another. Aldi has a lower calorie version and they aren't too bad. Only 130 calories per serving.

I did not realize that today was Ice Cream Sandwich Day. I do remember those sandwiches as I used to love eating them. I do not eat them as much anymore and do not see them around very much. It does not seem to be too popular here anymore with all the other different types of ice cream and desserts. People here like trying new things and some of the past favorites are almost non existent. I may have to go out and get one.

I remember my middle school years, everyday for lunch I had BBQ chips, an ice cream sandwich and a coke. So unhealthy, but back then I was so skinny I was trying to gain weight! Thanks for the response.

Happy happy joy joy!!!!! I love ice cream sandwiches! I think sometimes the ones I buy have too much of a crispie outside. I like it when it gets soft and squishy!

No we don't. Maybe our start trying the generic brands from the different stores and see if I can find one that brings back the memories.

I missed National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! Oh man, I hate that. The good news is that my husband and I each ate a Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich yesterday. So, technically we celebrated it without knowing we were celebrating it. Hope you had fun celebrating this tasty holiday.

I'm eating one tonight has my snack. LOL I have been saving up for it all day. As soon as I get both girls in and settled, momma is going to eat it and enjoy it! How are the Skinny Cow's? I have never tried them. Thanks for the response.

Hi kimbers867. I think it's wonderful that you treat yourself after taking care of the kids all day. The Skinny Cows are absolutely delicious! Even my husband likes them and he can get a little leery of anything he perceives as "diet food." You really ought to try them. They are a little pricey but worth it. Enjoy your Ice cream sandwich!

Hooray! I love ice cream sandwiches! I like almost any kind although I eat the oreo ones most frequently. I like making my own ice cream sandwiches with my mom's homemade chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. Ice cream sandwiches are such a fun summer treat! :)

You just reminded me of Baskin Robbin's ice cream sandwiches were always so good. Then another memory just came back, we had a small dairy store/convenience store (High's) that would take crispie waffle shaped cookies and put a slice of neapolitan ice cream in the middle. They were the best. Thanks for the response.

That sounds wonderful. It sounds like they used wafer cookies. I've never had a ice cream sandwich with them but I would love to try it. The crunchy and soft combination would be great together.
