I live in a beautiful community in southern Minnesota. The town itself is built between too lakes....Albert Lea Lake which is named after the town itself and Fountain Lake which is positioned right in the center of my little city! There is a path all around the lake...and two islands which have walking bridges so you can enjoy sitting on an island watching the activities on the lake. One of the areas of Fountain lake has a statue of a Mermaid and three fountains that are lit up at night while the colors change every minute.....here is a picture of our fountains in Fountain lake. Does you city have something special that sets it apart or a special area that you love to visit?

It's a wonderful picture! Thanks for sharing. I lived once in a small village and it is surrounded by a winding river. The village is at the center of the river with a small "neck" which connects it to the towering mountains. But it is a far-flung village far from "civilization". It's a paradise to me then, because it is free of the din of city noise and pollution. The river was my special place. I and some friends usually spent afternoons in the riverbank just basking in the fresh air and taking dips now and then. The riverbank is also peppered with guava trees and berries which bear fruit all year round. We took liberty of stuffing our containers with loads of them and then feasting on them and bringing some home. Remembering now makes me nostalgic.

Wow... now I'm getting nostalgic too, on this lazy Sunday. Guavas, hmmmmm... Would the berries be our ubiquitous "aratiles"? Happy day to all! :)

You did a fabulous job of telling the picture. I could just imagine it while reading. You're gifted. No I really don't have anything to brag about here because I live in a small town of about 800 people. All they do is either talk about their health problems or what the neighbours are doing. It must be very beautiful where you are!!!

Although many towns have annual festival events I would say our Annual Mushroom Festival would be the one big thing that sets our town apart. People look forward each year to hunting for Morel Mushrooms and taking part in the Largest Morel Contest. Families enter their little ones into the Little Mr. and Miss Mushroom contest and local talents is exhibited during the Talent Show.

Hi there Jill,
Lucky, Lucky, Lucky you! Can I come and live with you for about twenty years?, haha. It must be such a pleasure to live somewhere that you are so proud of. I have nothing to brag about, just a suburb of Cleveland. I did at one time live in a cute little apartment complex that had a lake and a small fountain in the middle. I loved it there, and my apartment was right on the lake. But alas, I couldn't afford it by myself no more and had to leave. I still think about it every so often and wish I could go back, but the rent is much higher now too. It was so much fun waking up and having my coffee on my little patio, watching the ducks and their babies go swimming by. I'm glad you have such a beautiful community to live in...it does make it special doesn't it?

Hi jillhill.
Your community sounds absolutely lovely. Especially the paths around the lake. What a great place to walk every day. Plus the little islands sound fascinating. I am going to check out your picture as soon as I post this response.
Well, I live in a pretty small town in FL and there's not much here. However, there is a river that runs into the ocean about 1 1/2 miles from our house. There is a bridge over the river and the water is beautiful. Many days, there are boats of all kinds. The sailboats just look so great on that water. My husband and I have a rule that one of us has to comment on the water when we drive over it so as not to take it for granted that we live so near the ocean now.
Plus, we have some awesome sunsets. I have seen alot of sunsets in other places, but wow, these are just knock your socks off sunsets. I need to snap more pictures of them. Colors of orange, pinks, and purples, it's just unbelievable really. When a palm tree is in front of one of those sunsets, it's just breathtakingly beautiful.

Yes, it has it's own little bit of character. I'm considered a "Northerner" and living in the south is somewhat different than living in Illinois. It's taken me nearly 5 years, but I think I've finally adjusted to it.
I've not been to Fort Walton Beach, but I've seen a road sign for it, so I must have been close to it at some point.
One thing that's fun about living here is taking day trips to different areas all over the state. This week my husband's gonna speak in West Palm Beach so I'm gonna go with him. There's supposed to be really great shopping there. Although I don't consider myself a big shopper, I do like to shop in new, unexplored areas.

I agree with you, your town is very special. I wish I
live in a town like that. I love it especially the two
lakes you mentioned. The picture is beautiful. It would be
heavenly if i can walk in the walking bridge and sit on
the islands, watch the people passing by.
I love lakes they make my self calm. There is something
special about lakes, the serenity it brings is uncomparable.

A three
thumbs up for your town.

Ya all of us love our home town more than any other. I love my hometown because of this is my birthplace. Nothing special in its natural beauty. But all my relatives and friends makes me to go there. More than that it is country side with its speciality..

I would love to see the photos of your town. I tried a few days ago when you posted this discussion and then again today to get to your homepage so I could view them. The page won't load! Both lakes and the mermaid statue sound so pretty. I bet that is an awesome sight to see.

Thank you.....dian....Minnesota is a very green and lush state. We have lots of trees and over 10,000 lakes. We have industry that is connected to farming....alot of it anyway. It's friendly and has tons to offer in the way of entertainment. I don't know if I could ever live anywhere else.....I love Minnesota.

So beautiful! And look at that little rainbow in the fountain! I can imagine the sound of the fountains: soothing peals of laughter that fall softly on the serene lake. I would love to see it at night lit with colors. You do have a special hometown. :)

Thanks for shareing the beautiful photo. My inlaws live in Northern Minnesota in a town called Mount Iron, and they frequently drive to Lake Vermillion. I have seen many of the lakes in the northern region and all are beautiful. They dont call it the state of 10000 lakes for nothing. Thanks again.

That sounds like a beautiful community you live in. It would be nice to travel there some time to see the sights. I live in Birmingham, Alabama. My family and I just moved here from Pennsylvania about three months ago.
As a matter of fact there is something of significance that I believe is located down town from me called "The Vulcan" which is a huge statue that has been around for hundreds of years. It holds a lot of meaning to many people here and is celebrated pretty regularly.

hi jill!
your town is really beautiful. it would be a nice place to visit. ^__^
my hometown has a lot to offer too to visitors and tourists. we also have a lake, Laguna Lake named after our province. it is the biggest lake in the country and not only our hometown has the jurisdiction over it. its a heart shaped lake and a lot of people are dependent on it as their source of livelihood and income.
aside from the lake, our town has a lot of hot spring resorts (different from the Japanese hot springs though). usually, these resorts have swimming pools and the water on it would be hot. its because we have a mountain here, Mt. Makiling, which is a dormant volcano. its also another tourist's spot. it has a lot of outlets, mudsprings as we call them where she let's out her heat. having a volcano is the reason why we have a lot of hot springs. Mt. Makiling is a famous site for hikers. when you reach its Peak 2, not the very peak, you can see the whole town and the Laguna Lake. there's also an Eagle Center in the mountain which is a famous destination for students on field trips.
we also have the popular science and nature university which is one of the campuses of the famous University of the Philippines. the students composition includes people from all over the country and also from other countries.
and then our town is also famous for buko (coconut) pie and a lot of other sweet delicacies.

lovely sight to see Centennial Street with the Jacaranda treesin full bloom, huge balls of pale blue purple all along this one street. there are 60,000 people in Tustin and everyone takes pride in their yards, even the rental units have gardens. I love Tustin for its civic pride.
