Stars with numbers

I just got back to mylot after a long layoff, and i just noticed there are now stars with numbers on them on some of the nicks on mylot. Mine has a number 9 on it, what does that mean?

thank you for your response, this was definitely very helpful, and I did take the time out to read the link you sent. This must have happened during the time i took off or I just didn't notice before. I just hope people do not abuse this, how have you found this system so far?
I do rate responses especially to posts that I started. I do not do it as much with other posts that I just reply to or read.

The day before yestoday ,my star is 8 but suddenly it changed and
there's a 7 show again,i just get 7 when my responses are 100 , but i don't i
will come back ..and here i find you get the star of 9 , you are high than mine
,maybe i should do more
