Let us throw out politics and speeches for a minute shall we. Let us say you were picking the next leader of you country from what is on their resume, who would you choose. Candidate Barack Obama, graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School. Obama worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney Served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Obama also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Currently serving a the Senator from Illinois since 2004. Candidate John McCain, graduated from the United States Naval Academy and became a naval aviator. Served during the Vietnam War and became a POW when his plane was shot down over North Vietnam. McCain retired from the Navy as a captain in 1981 which ended his 23 years career. McCain was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona in 1982. After serving two terms, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986, winning re-election in 1992, 1998, and 2004 which he currently serves. Based on only the information in front of you who would you rather have as your President.

I would rather have McCain. He has the experience and he has been in politics longer. He can also understand what American went through, his years as a POW giving him an understanding of adversity. With Obama, we sort of had an easier route. You need to go through the ropes to be a good leader.

I remember hearing about the other leaders who went through hard times. Like Abraham Lincoln grew up in poverty and he helped to make America great, and both Eisenhower and Truman fought in the 2nd World War, and Roosevelt had polio, and Theodore Roosevelt went to fight in Cuba and he was weak as a youngster but worked hard to become strong. These all made great leaders and McCain will do the same.

McCain, of course - he has years of experience on Obama. That's not how one should pick a president, though. Throw in their platforms and voting records, and I'd probably abstain from the voting process altogether (I don't like either of them).

I have got to go with McCain. Serving as an officer in the military teaches one things about organization and teamwork under high stress situations not available in the civilian experience. Obama's life experiences have not prepared him to deal with the high IQ sociopaths of certain foreign nations. McCain does understand that kind of person having had them try to kill him. It is a hard thing to convince people but there are people who are very charming, eloquent, and seem reasonable but for whom it is all an act to set you up to be conned or killed. Such people rise very high in politics in whatever country they are born. Obama does not understand such people or know how to deal with them. Just his statement he was prepared to negotiate with anyone without preconditions proves this.

I would elect Obama because I think he is the more rational of the two. I also, for a completely selfish reason, would vote for him over McCain. Obama is a sponsor of the Community Choice Act which is a bill which would nationalize personal care assistant services. Presently, each state has the option to offer them or not. Personal care assistant services, for those of you who don't know, are people often hired by disabled people themselves to come into their house and help them with things. I, for example, need assistants for dressing, washing, and using the bathroom. Because I have these needs I can't live in Pennsylvania with everyone else in the world I know. I had to move to MA just to get services. PA only offers four hours of care a day and they wanted to give me only three because they said I wasn't severe. In MA, I get 16 a day which is much more sustainable to me. I'm hoping Barack wins so I can move to Philadelphia because that seems like an ideal place for me. Close to my family but not too close and still having all the independence I have now.

Of the two... based on the backgrounds... it would have to be McCain. In reality, neither one would have been my choice, and there are many in both parties who feel the same way, if the news is being accurate.
