Is the grass truly greener on the other side?

Do you ever feel that you're always getting the short end of the stick? Or do you constantly compare your life to others' lives? We are bombarded with daily images of the posh lifestyles of celebrities. Their expensive wardrobes and status can entice even the happiest person to drool over such luxury. But by thinking about the world as a whole, you'll find that your own life is wealthy beyond compare. Make a short list of some of your overlooked privileges. Owning a car (or two!), having access to television, computers, drinkable water, a respectable wage at your job, and all of the freedoms you enjoy that are a foreign idea to many people around the world. Be grateful for your life and over time maybe you will see that your plot in life is someone else's "greener grass."

The grass always appears to be greener on the other side. I think we all know it isnt. Once you get what you think you are seeking it often doesnt meet expectaions and you wish that you were back the waythings were before. i jsut dont know why we cant accept where we are. I guess it's human nature to want what we cant have.

I am actually really grateful for my life, and I think that's the best way to be. I'm thankful for simple things, such as food and shelter, that some people have to live without. I'm thankful for everything in my life, and I can't imagine wanting to be someone else!

You have a good point about being grateful for our lives and the things that we have. Sometimes I do believe the grass is always greener. But the way that you have pointed out things here have made me think differently. I might have some things that another person would like to have. It might not always have to be materialistic things. We should be happy for the love of a family or to love a child. Thank you so much for your insight and enriching thoughts. Have a wonderful day!

Sometimes the grass is not greener on the other side in some cases it is worse, it is all a gamble, like a catch 22

Nothing influences me, nor brands nor celebs nor their cribs nor their rides. All inspires me is that being happy in what i am doing and what i am earning by my own. I dont regret anything. I have everything coz i think whatever i have is everything for me.!

I agree with you that one has to be grateful only then will you be able to lead a happy contented life.We take for granted the many blessings that surround us constantly.I am blessed with good health, loving family, a comfortable place to live in,fresh air, clean water, abundance of food, nice clothing, reliable transportation, enough wealth and so on.I think a a thankful person is a tranquil person.I never want to compare myself with others I am happy as Iam.I am truly grateful to God for whatever he has blessed me with.

Dear, I started a similar discussion on the same topic and the responses I received were very interesting. Many of the mylotters told me that they infact fell into the trap of 'greener grass' and later on they found it was not so. It is a human tendency that the other fellow looks in a better position to him. The same is with me, I sometimes feel that my other friends are in a better position in every field. But when I see their are some of them, who are in a worse position than I am, then I forget the dictum that grass looks greener on the other side. There is one more saying also - "I took fancy for expensive shoes but I did not have money to buy that, I felt bad, but when I looked a fellow without legs, I realised atleast I am better than him, I have shoes in my feet. "

Sure it is, how true this saying is. Most of us are somehow "incomplete" and we always feel lacks. It's either we don't have this or we don't have that. So we always think that somehow, it would be better if we cross over and have what that other person have. Not quite true. It is rare for a perfect circumstance. You may have another pro you want but you are gonna be saddled with another con. Life is a ride, enjoy the experience. Cheers!

I am lucky in that I don't worry about the color green whether it be my grass or somebody else's grass. I think about what needs to be done and I try to do the best I can. I have very little time for wondering about other people and their grasses. Cheers!!

Hi MsEdge, What you say here is so very true. Yes the grass we live on is definitely greener to someone else. I am always happy with my lot (sorry about the pun LOL) and have never tried to keep up with the Jones so to speak but I know others do and envy the fortunes of others too. I am happy with my green green grass of home. Ellie :D

One of the sayings that is an untruth, the grass s greener on the other side!we all maybe would love to have a taste of the good life,if thats what you would like to call it,but in all honsety im sure that most of us would soon go back to our normal everyday lives. It may well be greener on the other side for a few days, but then lol im afraid I would want to go back to my side.

I think such is human nature, most of peoples always have a feeling that others' stuff must be good,it means many people don't cherish stuff which they had owned, they often say 'his xx is better than me,why i don't have?...'if we clam my feeling we will find other peoples don't have some thing which we had owned. So i should cherish my own,in this way we will get more.

I think your point hits it right on the nose. My biggest problem in my life is Im always comparing myself to others and there problems. Some people always tell the good part of there life story and not the bad. I would always say WOW she got it good. She got a good man, a nice house, nice clothes, but later come to find out that deep down inside there is hurt and pain, and also unhappiness because her life is not all that we think it is. I had to learn the hard way.

The grass really isn't greene on the othe side of the ense. That's just an expression ade up by people who just can't be happy with what they hae. I am happy with what I hae. Sure I wish that my husband was hee, and not in the USA, and that things were diferent. I get a little annoyed when happy couples who actually lie ogeher complain aou things. LOL I ask them why they worry about that when hey could e separated. That usually pus things into perspective.

Very good thoughts.. many people didn't realize how blessed they are, yes with the life that they have though not having luxury that other had possessed but think of the blessings of good health that we have? People may have all the luxury they can ask but their health is not good. We must be thankful for all we have and not think of more green on the other side of the world.
