Politics and the Media: How desperate is John McCain?

John McCain: the presumptive Republican nominee for PRESIDENT of the United States of America. The man's campaign has been anything but noteworthy. He sits around in his campaign office and looks bewildered along with his workers and advisors wondering why the media isn't as gracious to him as they are to BARACK OBAMA. Well first lets get one thing straight...John McCain is a war hero. And don't get me wrong I am a proud supporter of the Armed Forces, but he's old in every sense of the word. He's old news in that nobody really cares of the whereabouts of the McCain campaign and to make things worse..he's 72!!! He will probably be on an oxygen tank before he's inaugerated anyway but seeing as though that's not gonna happen because the image of the GOP has been dragged through the mud by President Bush, that also isn't important. Everyday that McCain remains in this race, he is making Obama look that much better and that much more suitable for the office of Commander in Chief. Politics fans, leave your comments.

This election should be decided on the issues and what each candidate *can* do, not how he looks or how old he is. This country has had elderly presidents and a handicapped one as well. What concerns me more than McCain's age are the empty promises I keep hearing from Obama. He wants to tax the oil companies so that he can put $1,000 in everyone's pockets. Nice plan...but it's unconstitutional and won't happen. I'm also getting tired of Obama's race baiting speech where he talks about what "they" are going to say. Unless I missed the part where he was shown to by psychic, that's ugly in my opinion.

He doesn't need to be psychic, "they" are already saying these ugly things. I know you've seen many of the posts right here on myLot where members have posted one after another after another of these viral e-mail forwards implying Obama is everything from the anti-Christ to a terrorist! "They" keep emphasizing his middle name "Hussein" as if it had anything to do with anything. "They" say he's not black enough right after "they" say he'll only care about blacks if he gets elected. "They" accuse him of being a Muslim, as if that along made someone a bad person but in the next breath "they" talk about his long time Christian pastor. The only mistake Obama made was in saying what they're "going" to say because they've already BEEN saying it. Annie

Annie, I'm not talking about emails and the internet, I'm talking about responsible campaigning, live and in person by the two candidates. I have seen snippets of Obama's race baiting speech on the news so many times that I can quote parts of it..."they'll try to make you afraid of me...they will say that I have a funny name...they will say that I don't look like the other presidents on the dollar bill...oh, and did I mention that he's black?". The lead in to these remarks mention the Republicans, not the internet or email, so in all of the instances that he's used these words, he's never once stated that he's referring to emails. He's telling people what John McCain is "going" to say about him so how can anyone not see that as wrong? Just like the most recent tv spot I've seen which mentions how he will put $1,000.00 in our pockets by charging an exise tax on big oil. If people just say "Oh goody!" and don't pay attention, they're going to be in for a big disappointment because this will never happen. You can't pick one industry and slap a huge tax on it alone just 'cause you feel like it. It's unconstitutional and will never even make it through Congress, much less the courts where big oil will tie it up in litigation for years. I'm not for one candidate or the other. A president is more than a man so I don't really care how he looks or how old he is. He's a leader so I'm listening and paying attention to what both candidates are saying and I think that everyone needs to do that. Don't take what either one of them says at face value.

For all the criticism leveled at McCain for his dry and lethargic campaign, we have a virtual tie in just about every poll. For all the racism charges we see leveled at Obama and his campaign, we still see a virtual tie in almost every poll. It seems both campaigns, despite the arm chair quarterbacking we all like to play, they know what they're doing. I'm speaking on this in a purely campaign critique and not a partisan debate. I have to hand it to both of them actually. They are methodically vote by vote, running pretty successfully campaigns. The tipping point is going to have to come from persuading the on the fence types and the results of that will in all likelihood not be seen until election day This is going to be anyones game this election.

His age doesn't worry me at all; it's what's in his head that worries me. I don't agree with the direction he wants to lead us in. He hasn't come up with plans for any issue that has impressed me. By letting Karl Rove back into the mix, he has proven that he will just be four more years of tired old policies that fail. I agree with you that he is making Obama look better. I was a Clinton supporter all the way and still would be if she were in the race. It took me a while to get to know Obama. Now that I have, I will support him 110%. I really look forward to hearing them debate - that should bring in even more support for Obama. I can't wait until November!

It is completely true. I agree with you fully. He says things that contradict himself, makes obvious lies, and has even made racist comments towards minorities and foreigners. It is a shame, and I really hope he does not win. There is even proof of his lies and idiocy on youtube. Here is a great link to his crap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFGgtzG-KDk
