Laying Down Our Burdens

We have all experienced the feeling of walking through life carrying the burden of our worries and stresses, with no way to move freely and a struggle to move forward at all. How we all long to lay down our burdens! The human imagination is a powerful tool that we can use to take us to far off events, times and places, it can also help us here for no matter how smart we are, how capable we are, or how hard we work, few of us can singlehandedly and successfully cope with all the worries that come to us in a lifetime. Visualize yourself then, carrying your burdens to the feet of someone or something that represents the divine to you. It may be a mountain, the Buddha, Jesus, or the great Mother, it may be anyone or anything that you are comfortable with. Make it a daily practice to sit with your eyes closed and envision an all powerful, supremely comforting being in what ever form that it takes for you standing at the end of a road. See yourself carrying a large container filled with all your worries and watch as you lay it down at the feet of the being of you choice. Allow yourself to feel the lightness, the relief of that action. Express your gratitude and surrender. This short meditation can and will work wonders for all who sincerely want to rid themselves of burdens they were never meant to carry in the place.

Hi Pose123! I have been taught a similar way of giving it all up to the Lord all my burdens before when I was in the point of really giving up and being so depressed with everything. I can't find any more joy nor solace in the things that I was blessed with. And when my dear grandmother persistently told me to offer it up to God and imagine it being taken by God in His Hands and to imagine myself feeling lighter and lighter. When I did that, I cried so much..and after I have cried myself to sleep, I just woke up the following morning with so much peace within. I felt a little weird and tried to think about all the problems that I was just thinking about the night before. The problems are still there and they keep on piling up until this time but I have found peace amidst the storms all because of My Lord. I still cry every now and then, I still feel weak most of the time but I have found my Lord and I hope and pray to never lose Him as I still continue my journey in this life. Thanks for sharing this my friend..I know that many will find solace in this as I did somehow. Take care always..God Bless!

thats a really interesting meditation...I might have to pass it on to a few ppl I know I think..in fact i know I will and hopefully they'll be able to work with it...awesome..thanks for sharing that!! It wouldnt work for me mind you but that type guided med I guess you could say never does for me...best method for me is to ground and centre or "wash" them away/drain them from my body rather than trying to visualize giving them to someone/something else....I think becaue my mindset is very much an "I must do this on my own" type thought process..so to try and visualize passing my stresses off to another being wouldnt work..it would be like "passing the buck" if that makes sense....but I know a couple of ppl that it just might do wonders for so I'll definately be printing it off for them... rock on pose..thanks again for sharing it

Hi Ravenladyj, Thank you for responding. It is a very simple meditation and will work for many people. I believe I know what you mean by "passing the buck", as I know others who think that way. My feelings are that something has to be big enough to understand it all, so it it isn't really a burden for him/her/it. Blessings.

I live in the country ,so I love going out with my dogs. I love to meditate and listen to the birds singing. Is a wonderful experience to connect yourself with nature and to forget about your troubles while you are meditating with your eyes close ,and the only thing that you hear is the sound of nature.

Hello dear pose. It is easier said than done. When it is so hard to make life go on smoothly as it used to, it is really not that easy to lay down our burdens, as we have to be practical in our life and work. Of course, I have always been trying to lay down the burdens on me in the hope that I will have enough decent earnings to live an easy life. Anyway, thank you so much for your nice discussion. Enjoy your life as much as you can and so it is the same with me. Good day.

Hi williamjisir, Thank you for responding. Meditation, even something as simple as this does take time to learn. We all have to work at it and I agree sometimes it isn't easy. Blessings.
