what's difference between "i don't understand love" and "i can't understand love

i just don't know what the difference between "i don't understand love" and "i can't understand love", who can tell me about that? which sentence should i use? "it was i who did not understand love in the past" or "it was i who could not understand love in the past"?

Well, Lazysheep, it's not too complicated. "I don't understand" means the person who says it is sort of asling for help in learning what it is. "I can't understand" indicates that he or she has tried, perhaps, but has given up and is not too anxious to try to get it!
