When I was young, I have always wanted to be a doctor. A lot of kids that time would tell you that they want to be either a doctor or an engineer when they grow up. There were also times when I wanted to be a teacher like my mother, as I love books a lot. But my constant dream was to be a doctor. When I was in my senior year in high school, I watched my dad die in the hospital after complications in his appendectomy. In that same year, I watched over my mom's hospitalization for myoma removal. I hated to be in hospitals since then. My love of being a doctor died along with my dad. I took up Chemistry instead, and now I am a licensed Chemist. But I have only worked as chemist for a little less than two years, and have worked as Copy Editor for one year now. What about you? Did your childhood dreams come true? What then, if I may ask, is your highest educational attainment? Mine is college graduate. My family/husband wants me to pursue a master's degree but I don't like to go back to school ;O)

Dear joy, I wanted to be a vertinarian .. my dad said he can try to come up with the money if i did well, at the same time he said it could be difficult to get job (by the way we were not rich .. my father was only a smart driver , he knew how to safe money .. when i was in high school i chickened out because science was so difficult and i feared i can not succeed rthermore my younger brother was finishing his studies soon too.. my dad cant afford 2 of us in university .. at he same time my brother was finishing his the following year. i just opted for a computer diploma programme .. then i started to work, few jobs later when i was 28 i decided to continue degree in computers .. my husband (then boyfriend), shared the expences with my father, by this time both my brothers graduated so the burden was not there at one time for my father ... it was more important for the boys in family to finish education first, for girls we can get job anywhere ... well now i am not doing any computer related work .. I am events manager

I was dreaming to be a pilot or stewardes when I was a child but unfortunately I was not tall and I can't able to send by my parents to a good school for pilots. So maybe until now I'll just dream and keep wondering how was it be a pilot or stewardes.

It seems to me that a lot of people who answered this discussion wanted to be doctors when they were young (that includes me). What happened to us guys? Maybe we should go back to school and fulfill our dreams.

And to think that a lot of doctors are now studying nursing! How ironic.

MY mom is nurse so as my cousins. When i was very young i wanted to be a nurse like my mom and even when i was in high school, i still have that dream of becoming a nurse for me to help those who are sick. But unfortunately, i was discouraged by my cousins who are nurses because of the low demand of nurse as to work. So i did pursue a business administration degree major in marketing and graduated but because of the high cost of living and increasing demand of nurses in foreign countries i was encouraged to take up nursing as my second course. Today i am now a full pledge nurse with a bachelor degree. its actually a hard work for me to get the degree and its actually tiring. But i guess my childhood dream came true. Right now, i am working in a hospital and i am enjoying it. After being in college for almost 8 years (marketing and nursing) im still planning to pursue a masteral degree.

just like most of the children,i wanted to be a doctor. as i got older, i dont like to be a doctor anymore. i was moved by my grandma who was a social worker and i happen to like what she was doing, so in my grade school years, i wanted to study social work. But then, in high school, my interest was in psychology. unfortunately, i was not able to pursue psychology and i ended up taking marketing management! hahaha...and now law! hahaha!

yo, feeman! Wuzzup! Come to think of it, i really did not know what i wanted to be when i was a kid. I just wanted to play and watch cartoons. Hehehehe. Coz i was always changing my mind about what u wanted to be when i was a kid. Did you know that it wasnt until the first day of enrollment in college that i decided what course to take? Hehehe. I took up Chemistry but decided in the middle of the sem that i didnt like chem that much. That's not the first time that happened though. Hehehehe. When i was in grade school, i wanted to be an artist. I ooved to draw and watch cartoons at that time. Then when i got to highschool, i wanted to be a film-maker coz i was fscinated at how movies were made. But that was short-lived 'coz i got into sports (archery) and had the naive dream of making it to the olympics. I concentrated so hard on archery that i ended up not knowing what course to take in college. I wanted to be in the arts industry, but my mother wouldnt allow me. She wanted me to ba a doctor. Which was fine with me. I took up chemistry with the intention of going to med school after that. But things took a different turn for me. I got interested in the human behavior and the human mind. So i dropped chem and took up psychology. Hehehehe. It was a good choice, though. I was exposed to different kinds of people. The crazy ones, the abused, the very poor, the killers, the victims. That was really great! I found a course that wasnt superficially, but dug deep into the human motives and personalities. The adventures into the human mind was equivalent to outer-space adventures! Hehehehe. In four years, i wasted no time and graduated with a BS degree and was able to get a job as a teacher ehile trying to juggle my masters degree at the same time. But i was on a tight budget, so i wasnt able to write my thesis yet. Hehehe. I woked as a chilp psychologist for a field research for a year. And afetr that, due to the lack of job opportunities, i am now a copy editor. Hahahahaha. A far cry from the psychologist that i used to be. But,hey. It's better than not having a job. Heheheheh.

Same as you.. When I was a kid, I also want to be a doctor.. I really want to be a doctor even up to now.. When I was in my senior in high school, I found out that I can took the course I want because my parents cannot afford to send me in a medical school.. My older brother told me to took up scholarship in one of the exclusive school in our city, so I took the exam but sad to say even I passed the exam and grand a full scholarship still I can't took the course that I want because the scholarship they've afford was not credited for medical courses.. I was really depressed that time.. It took me whole summer to decide what course should I take.. Then I went to the scholarship office to asked of what course could I get then they told me Education.. Since, I am not decided of what would I like to took so I just take the full scholarship with a course of Education.. In my four years in college with that course, I never like it.. Still I am dreaming to be a doctor.. Even though I don't like the course that i took, still I try my best to get high grades to maintain my scholarship.. I just enjoyed my life in college without thinking what will be my future after I graduate.. I never plan anything what will happen to me after I graduate, all I am thinking is the present.. Actually, I never took my course seriously.. Even I got high grades and most people are proud to see my grades but for me it is nothing.. After I graduated my profession most of my friends invites me to apply job from different schools.. But since being a teacher is not what I want, what I dreamed of I didn't apply any job from different schools in our city but instead I went to another city and I apply job from different company.. luckily, now I am already working as Graphic Artist in one of the Hotel Companies here in the Philippines.. But even I have a good job still I can't say that I am happy that I am contented.. There is still something in me that I am looking for, somethings that could make me happy.. Well, I am not hoping or dreaming to fulfill my dream because I know that it is already impossible.. And besides I don't want to go back to school and study.. Maybe, I'll just go with the flow of what might come into my life.. As for now, i don't have plans yet.. Maybe, soon...
