Should ragging in colleges be banned? I think it should. It causes superiority and inferiority complexes among seniors and juniors. But there are many of the opinion that ragging creates courage in students. And that students who have too high an opinion of themselves, will be leveled down..

I went to a Christian university, and the only kind of "ragging" we had was that freshmen wore green beanies for something like a week after classes started. We had to do things like carry the books of upperclassmen and stuff like that. But it wasn't demeaning. It was all done in a friendly way and meant to be a way for the newbies to get to know people who had been there for awhile and become friends in the course of things. I think that being cruel to people isn't good in any sort of setting--and certainly not in a setting where many kids are away from their families for the first time and might be experiencing a certain amount of homesickness anyway. When did it become so "entertaining" to be cruel to others? I've seen this trend happening over the past couple of decades, give or take, and I can't wait for this "fad" to run its course.

I know some univs in my region have some small ragging rules set. The first years cant ride two wheelers, only bicycles... and such small things. I really cant understand if taht a bad thing or not..

Ragging unfortunately in a lot of colleges means physical violence and also is demeaning to the first years. There should be a healthy relationship, fun and some amount of activities. But in most colleges it is unpleasant and even dangerous.

You might want to add what your definition of "ragging" is .. it has different meanings all over the world.
