Menses...

My mom was quite open about it when she explained the hows and the why's of a woman's monthly cycle. It was not not something that caused embarrassment. Rather she discussed it in a manner which I can grasp and at the same time perceive as natural for a girl to have. When the time came for me to have my menses, I was prepared for it and I thank my mom for that. How did you come to know about menstruation?

My mother explained it to me after I told her about how the other kids at school were talking about it. At first I was so horrified that such things could happen to my body. Then it happened to my best friend (even now it still sounds like she caught a disease). And then it was my turn. I hated it because I had a bad case of dysmenorrhea, and it took me a long time to accept it.

Hi diutay,
You are very lucky but my mother never spoke of things like that to me so when I started I did not know what is was, I thought I cut myself but then my mother told me what it was so that was it. Later I came to understand more all that stuff.

My mom was quite honest with me as well and since I can remember, always read my sister and I books about the human body, where babies come from and anything else. I appreciate her honesty and I am raising my daughter the same way. Any questions she asks, I try to answer as honestly and simply as I can. I have nothing to hide and like yu said, it's only natural for female to get one. If I have a boy in the future, I plan on being honest with him too. I feel guys should know and understand that it is natural for a girl to have them and the changes both boys and girls go through so once they hit that stage they aren't like EWW when one of their school mates start to "change". I feel that all mothers should be honest with their children. It's only natural for children to be curious and it's honesty that gets your childrens respect.
