I was just shocked when I heard about this from a friend of mine and after a bit of searching I found out that Iowa Labour Officials just today made public the dozens (you did not read wrong, dozens) of child labour violations. Yikes!
To top it off, it appears that all of this only came to light because of the 398 (WOW) arrests made this last spring at a meatpacking plant. These arrests are the largest immigration enforcement in USA history.
Looks as though the child labour issues only came to light when the illegal immigrants were questioned.
So, in a nutshell, pretty much most Kosher meat you buy, was brought to your grocery shop/butcher shop by illegal immigrants that are still kids.
Much of this news story isn't being revealed because it is an ongoing criminal investigation.
Has "the bottom line" become so important that businesses will work kids for up to 12 hours, in dangerous conditions, hazardous chemicals with no overtime at least??

I just read the article and checked it out on cnn to get a back up of the article. This is something that I would not expect in the US. Child labor is always spoke about concerning other countries. This time it was right here in the us. They must have really needed the workers for them to hire workers that were not 18 years old. I was shocked a little by this but not surprised though. I bet there are other plants that are doing the same thing.
