Starting Over

At least you have the advantage of speaking the same language as your possible future home! Anyway, this will sound cliche for sure, but yes, I know of people who have made a similar -- my parents, when they came from Poland to America 20 years ago. My father came here with nothing but 200 dollars in his pocket, found an apartment and a job (at a fish market, I believe), and built a new life just like that. I'm sure a drastic move like that will be a rejuvenating life renewal. And it's definitely possible. Best of luck on that matter.

Well, you are already somewhat familiar with that area. If that's where your heart is leading you, then go for it. Before moving, though, check online with the Chambers of Commerce for the towns you are looking at and the towns' sites and find organizations and volunteer activities that interest you. That way, you already have some social options in mind for when you get there; that should help you to meet some nice new potential friends. You may also want to line up a house of worship if you are religiously inclined-- if you don't already have one from your visits. If you find the right one, it will help immensely in your getting settled into your new community.

Hi Lisa, I myself have not made such a move but I know of 2 people who have, 1 is my husband, before we met. His place of employment went out of business and just picked up and moved to Colorado... stayed there for 10 years, came back to NY (glad he did or we wouldn't have met). The other is my Best Friend from childhood, she has also moved to South Carolina... she went there on vacation one day, also from NY and decided.. that was it they will live there, they bought a home out there, have no family, but they LOVE it, they are doing very well. I hope this helps you even a little!
