My husband is driving me up the wall...I'm on leave for a few days; however I need to get some proposals and plans done.
I'm sitting here, thinking and counting, trying to make sense of the words, or get the figures to fit in. And my dear man is there talking, singing, whistling - I've just started ignoring him. Why is it that I could have the TV or a DVD movie or radio on, and it doesn't disturb me? But the sound of another human could be so distracting!
Why is it that I could have the TV or a DVD movie or radio on, and it doesn't disturb me? But the sound of another human could be so distracting! So how do you get your work done if your spouse, children or friends are so distracting? Please tell me......

Hi lazee, since we women are good at multitasking, lol. I learned many years ago to shut everything out except what I'm doing unless I want to hear what's going on. If they do get to bothering me, I tell them to go away I'm trying to do something and can not concentrate on what I'm doing with them doing....whatever it is they are. I'm not mean about it just letting them know. They always leave me to what I'm doing.

Hi, I've tried, and usually could tune everything out, except the whistling! My hubby tried not to talk to me, but after a while, he couldn't stand the silence and start whistling!
I've moved my laptop to our room upstairs, just to get the work done! Next time, I'd better not bring my work back on my vacation!
Thanks for responding and have a good day!

I totally understand how that can be annoying, I enjoy to have my hubbie around though but lets say it is my mother in that case she would annoy me, always interrupting with something stupid, well that I fixed I moved out of the country! Now I am a multitasker and I can type and talk at the same time and watch tv, so maybe I am lucky for that ability. Good one for you is headphones, so if he interrupts you, you look at him and say WHAT????? LOL

Hi Valeria, I'll move my laptop to the bedroom upstairs, and complete my work there. I can bear with background sounds and music (TV is always on), but I don't like to answer questions or talk, when I'm working. Anyway, I learned not to bring my work back home, when I'm on leave.
Thanks, and have a good day!

It is hard to concentrate on something when people keep speaking all the time! My hubby has been off work on leave for the last couple of weeks and he always comes and talks to me when I am concentrating on something and it puts me off completely!
I too can work if I have music on or the tv but when someone is talking to me its so different. Sometimes I zone him out and do not hear what he is saying but answer him automatically, he gets cross then because he knows I am not really listening.

Yup, you really understand what I meant! . My hubby is even worse - when he doesn't talk, he whistles, and that really drives me crazy!
I moved my laptop to our bedroom upstairs, and completed my work! Next time I'm on leave, I'd better not bring my work back!

For me i will ask him for keeping silence,i know it's difficut for your friends or your family, but sometime you need a silence entironment to do your work and you must say.If you don't want to be happend, the best way is that you get into another room,go on your work.

My husband will find it difficult to keep silent - he'll try, after a while, he either starts singing or whistling. He can do his work that way.
I've moved my laptop to our bedroom upstairs and managed to finish the work! Next time, maybe I should not bring my work back during my days off!
Thanks for taking the time to respond and have a good day!

Though I have never experienced that but I think it is going to be very difficult to work with it. I mean you simply loose out your concentration if the voice around you is continuous. I think you should convey your problem to your family. I am sure they are going to help you in some way or the other.

Hi, my husband tries not to disturb me, so he will not talk. But he just can't keep quiet, so he'll start whistling or humming - that still bugs me!
Anyway,no worries. I've moved my work and laptop to the bedroom upstairs, and completed my work. I had better not bring my work back when I'm on vacation.
Thanks and have a great day!

It is very difficult to do, I know I work from home. I think the TV and DVD are just background noise, you hear it, but it's not actually making you give attention to it. I absolutley know what you mean, expecially when you have to do a take-off, get a proposal together, that's rough.. It takes alot of focus.
Do you have another room you can go to to get your work done?

Hi Nanciem, I actually move my laptop upstairs to the bedroom. That's bad, isn't it? Anyway, once I'm done with my work, I'm okay! Should have known better than to bring work back on my days off!
