I know that I don't get points acknowledging my commenters but I still do,

It is because I know that being acknowledged is a way of saying that you have read their posts. It's fine even if I don't earn points as long as I can show them that I read their comments on my discussion. What about you? Do you always reply to the commenters of your discussions?

I do the same, even if I don't get any points for it. I figure if they took the time to read and respond to my discussion, then it is just common courtesy to reply back and acknowledge that I read their response. After all these are discussions, which to me means you don't just post a discussion and then leave it. I always read all the responses and rate them and reply back to whatever they have had to say.

Yes you cannot get points or earnings for acknowledging on your commentors, it has many benefits as your commentor will be glad to respond to your discussions.

I only reply to the responses if I need to say something more, otherwise there is no point in saying a simple 'thank you'! Anyway, that's obviously a good way to show that you have read responses. The best way to show your concern for good responses is my marking the best response and rating others as positive/negative.

I also comment back to most of the responses to my discussion. I have responded to some discussions that the poster doesn't comment on the responses. It makes one feel like they are having a one sided conversation. Sometimes I'll find an interesting discussion to respond to the the poster doesn't comment so I'll skip them because I don't really like to talk to my self all that much. so commenting on your responses is a good way to let people know that you are paying attention to them. For my self it is just good manners to comment back.

There cannot be a discussion or a dialog if there is not any comments made back.

I agree, it's good manners to reply. But I hope we won't be considered as going over rules as our motivation is good. I consider it rude not to comment back, What more this is a forum so there should e exchanges of ideas in one discussion. I appreciate that good input.

Commenting on responses does not count in your post number but I do think it is important. People who never add comments to responses get fewer responses to their discussions because it makes people think what they have added to the discussion has not been read or is not appreciated. If you read the guidelines it says not to add comments saying thank you for your response. Doing that will not increase your earnings. If you comment on what is said in each response, you will add more to the value of your discussion, you will get more responses, and you can earn more from it.

I think it's important ro reply to responses. A discussion is a two-way communication. That's why it's called a discussion thread. It's not meant to be a monologue.

Now that you've mentioned it, I must say you're absolutely right. This is a forum indeed, so there must be reactions to each comment. I appreciate your reaction and reminder.

I like to reply back to responses to my discussions. I like a person to know that I do read their responses and their responses are appreciated. It is a simple case of common courtsey. If they take the time to respond I know that they would like to know that their response has been read.

Yes, I agree with this as I have agreed with the earlier comments. Thanks for pointing it out that it is a simple case of common courtesy. You've got me there. And since this is a community and a forum, we should acquire this practice. I appreciate your invaluable comment.

I always read the comments on my discussions and I always comment on them as well. When I reply to a post I like getting a response as well. I usually get an email stating that someone replied to my post so I really enjoy it!
