Ok! You May Bring Your Suitcase To School

I passed by a private elementary school on my way to the city just this afternoon and I saw school children pulling along their bags. The bags are huge and some can be likened to suitcases used when one goes on a 5-day trip. When I was in elementary I only had a medium-sized back pack and that was it. What exactly have these kids stashed in their school bags / suitcase? Do they have to bring everything to school daily?

Hi diutay, Where I live I see school with just little bags or not carrying anything at all because their parents all picked up from school and they don't get too much homework to do so I think where you are the poor kids has a lot to do. Tamara

Yes. I actually pity the poor kids. I can understand the need and the desire for excellent education but if it's to the detriment of the child, I'd definitely not let it happen to my kid if ever I'll have one.

Yeah, I know what you meant, the one looks like suitcase with rollers for them to pull along easier. Frankly, it's a pitty for kids nowadays. There are more texts books for them to bring along daily as compared to our generation. In the past, we sometimes just left some books at our desk at school but now they are not allowed to do so, so have to carry all.

Very true. Several years ago, most of them used big backpacks but now I think their things wouldn't fit anymore. Thanks.

I pass by a couple of schools daily on my way to work in the morning. It's very puzzling to me and I feel very sad, seeing the size of the bags and the number of books that the kids are carrying to school everyday. It takes away the fun and joy of schooling and education

I learned a lot in school but I also had fun. Things like this takes the fun out of learning.

I'm not sure what is in there, either, but I never even had a backpack, back many years ago. I rarely had homework until I was in junior high school and then it wasn't the time consuming that I have seen my granddaughter do in grades 3-6!

And still, we all turned out ok. That makes me wonder in the wisdom of such things. Thanks.

When I was in elementary I was one of those kids who lugged a suitcase to school everyday LOL. AS a matter of fact, all of the elementar y kids lugged huge bags to school everyday. The boys would usually have these huge backpacks and the girls would have these bags strapped on to strollers. Later we had those bags with built in strollers, much like travel bags, but with cutesy designs. I guess we were just trying to make the best out of the situation, since we didn't have lockers then and we had to bring a ridiculous amount of stuff to school everyday. We had about 6-8 textbooks, one notebook for each subject, plus we had workbooks, pens, pencils, even art supplies!
