Country and their names..

Hi all I always wondered how some country got their names.. Do you perhaps know where your country's name is related from, or for what it stands ?? Thx

The only one I wonder about is Greenland. For a permanently icelocked strip of frozen tundra, it seems a bit optimistic.

I belong from India ,In ancient times it was known as Hindustan ie Hindu=Hindus(religion)+stan(asthan) ie place.So actually Hindustan means place where Hindus reside.After that many foreign attacks were held on this country and i think the last rulers ie the Britishers gave him the name India(derived from hind).
