I've heard from many people that college is on a whole 'nother playing field when compared to high school. Is it that different? I've heard that classes will be a lot harder and in general the stress level will go up. Any myLotters can give some advice and/or comments?

AS I have been in college for one year, I have a strong feeling about it. In high school, the courses is fixed and you have few choices. Also, there are more control from teachers. However, in college, you have more freedom to choose some of the courses. You can play an important role in lots of groups and the student union. At the same time, you need more self-control if you want to learn something from the classes or have a good marks. You will find that lots of various activities will take most of your time. So you need to give up some and organize your time to study. You should be responsible for youself. First you should know what you want to pursue. Then a plan is useful. Anyway, college life is quite different from high school life.

College can be tougher than high school for some. You get what you put into college. If you study and pay attention in class and attend class then you should be fine. The biggest difference between the two is that in college, it's all up to you. The teachers don't care if you skip class or not, they'll be just as happy to give you a failing grade as a passing one. If you get too stressed in college it is usually because you have taken on to great a load. But, as I said, it is all up to the student what happens there

Ahh, that's true. And there won't be any parents pressuring me to do stuff either. Guess it's time to start developing some self-motivation. Anyways, thanks!

im curretly on coldge and can only say that its total different then hich school, atleast for me ... when you where in high school you need to come to school every day, exception is only when you are sick or need to go to some competition ... on coledge there is not that, if you whant you can come to class if not no one will bother you becouse of that ... but the only thing that is tought in coldge is that you need to learn for example at home, take a book and learn, while in high school you can learn anything you need for a decent grade from the classes or extra classes

In college you're responsible for yourself and that means getting to class on time and having everything that you need, being prepared for tests and completing assignments. There is a little more stress on you because of the additional responsibility along with what is expected of you. Some of the classes will be harder but if you put more effort in to studying and learning the material you will be okay. It would be very helpful for you to have a schedule where you have blocks of time set aside for (of course) your classes but also for studying and for having some free time. You should study every day and use several different study methods; i.e. reading the material, organizing notes taken in class or taking notes from the textbook, making and using flash cards. I know that that sounds dorky but if you use flash cards you can slim down the deck by putting away the ones you know once you've learned them so you don't waste time studying things that you already know. It's also a good idea to form study groups with people in the same class. When I was first taking computer classes I was weak on the operating system but discovered early on that I was strong in programming so I partnered up with someone who was just the opposite and we helped each other to understand what we didn't quite get. Remember, too, that there is help and support available at every college so, if you find that you're having a problem, ask for help.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I've been told that studying is really quite important, unlike in high school, where most people can slack and still get nice grades. Group study sessions sound like a good idea.

Ya friend offcourse. According to me college level is a basement of our life offcourse school will also the same, but we are mature stage in college days. so we have to understand more and we have to get ahead by facing the new things rather than studying like school.

college is a place where we can enjoy the most when compared to high school...being in a hogh school also means to be under very control of the faculty wherea in college too we have rules but seemingly very enjoyable with friends...we've been threatened regarding our public exams in high school but we are rarely under pressure in our college

Learning is like a long ladder. You start at the foot of the ladder and make steps to climb and get to the top. In stepping the ladder, the first steps are easy, the next steps would be a little harder because you will exert more effort in climbing and your kinetic energy is higher (LOL). As you get to the top, you will climb much harder and exert much more effort intil you reach the top. In education, that's the time that you will face reality because you will be on your own. Good day!

.well, it depends on how you handle your situation.. I mean, definitely, in college you are into higher learning already and you expect that you will be having more responsibilities in your studies.. but if you learn to love and appreciate especially your course, nothing will be too hard for you.. you are going to enjoy your college because you love it.. that's the only secret i've learn when i went to college.. no matter how you seem to dislike your professor, you have to love your subjects.. the best you can do now is to really think of what field you want to be in college that will help you reach your highest goal in life..

For me college is more difficult than highschool you need lots of studying and coping up to be able to stabilize your stand.

Its better than high school at least thats what my brother has told me. He just graduated from college last year. You get to have the freedom you have once longed for and get away from your parents. On top of that you get to enjoy yourself a lot more by partying and hanging out with your friends whenever you want even though you got to keep your mind on you studies because the classes you take will be tough no matter what field you choose to go in, but there will be times when you have blow off classes. Its one experience you do not want to take for granted.=p
