The longest journey!

This is not a discussion about travel...but a discussion about personal journeys we all take during the course of our lives. Each one of us experiences a journey that starts in one place and takes us to a new place in our lives. Maybe your journey consisted of getting an education...the struggle...the worry.....or maybe a divorce. How about recovering from an illness....or an addiction? Each and everyone has a journey to complete. I am on a journey now that already had taken five years. I just submitted my intent to publish my next book. The journey started five years ago with the conception of an idea. Then I constructed an outline (my map) and wrote the first draft. THen I polished it somewhat. Then rewrote it again. When it was somewhat finished..it went to New York.....from there to Los Angeles...back to New York....and back to me. I rewrote it again. Then I decided to change it! So I wrote it again. The manuscript was just about finished when my computer crashed. So my son-in-law got it off my old computer when it would boot up for the last time. I decided I didn't like the rewrite...so I wrote it agin. And again...and again. Now the process has started. They design the cover first...the words are put into a galley...then it gets edited...checked and checked again....before the process is complete. My journey will continue for a long time yet with the new book..marketing...etc. So what is your journey that has made a difference in your life? What journey has taken a long time to complete?

Wow, I like your journey, it's a journey I would like to take too. I didn't know it would take that long to publish a book. I would want a book published too eventually. They said it's easier to self-publish a book. I guess that would be what I'll do. Publish a few copies perhaps and then see how it fares. May I know the title of the book? Perhaps I will buy one if it's finally ready. Hooray to you and good luck. I'm sure you'll succeed.

I self publish......and it is alot easier. I have dealt with editors that change what you wrote so much the words are not even your own anymore....when you finish your manuscript pm me and I'll give you a link to the best publishing place...I have published at two different ones....Good luck honey! It's a long journey!

wow jillhill, that is indeed the start of a very exciting journey. wanna share what your book is about? fiction or non-fiction? I love writing, but have never thought of writing an actual book. one day just for kicks, I might publish a book with one of those online publishers who can make like 5 copies of the book. but to find a real publisher who is willing to edit and market my book, I'd think that would be really tough!

Very interesting. Will you post the name of the book when it's complete? Sounds like something I'd like to read. I think what made me a better person was the fact I was adopted and able to locate my biological parents about 30 years ago. It was more than a journey, it was a challenge. Trying to convince my father he was my father. That was difficult. At one point I wanted to write a book but decided there was too much competition out there and gave up the idea. When the time comes that I am no longer working and have more free time, I may rethink the process and take it further. Would need to make an outline and a few notes as I recall them and next contact a ghostwriter.

YOu know what, you have incredible zest for everything you do and that is so admirable. Well, my journey is long, long and long and don't know if i will ever get to my destination. I had was a passenger in a car accident a couple of years back, nearly lost my life and my baby miraculously was unharmed, but since that day, I just can't drive. For a year, I couldn't sit in a car without shuddering and till date I don't have the confidence to pick up those keys and get behind the steering wheel. Most people have told me that this is quite a common reaction to an accident, but I am afraid, for me its a permanent situation now. I want to overcome the fear, but deep inside a voice tells me I can never do it for the simple reason that my baby was lucky once, what if she loses me? Overall also I have become a person who fears everything, the dark, air travel, it is as if I fear the worst is about to happen to me. My journey began a couple of years back, a journey to get back my own fearless and postive self, but its not over yet.

You are on a journey!! And we are so glad that both you and your baby survived the accident. It is a journey to overcome a fear! I hope someday, someway you'll be able to drive again. But I totally understand about your fear!

Writing the book sounds like a pretty amazing trip for you. Yes, you are just in the middle of that journey, aren't you? I've been through a couple of challenges in life that have continued on for days, weeks, or months. The most recent was getting through the hurricane in 2004, I think. I learned that we really have very little control in life. That whever's going to happen is what's going to happen. We can't make people do their job because we paid them. We can't chase people down to complete a task if they don't want to be "caught." We can't stay scared our whole life of something that happened once. It took me about 2 years to really reach some sort of resolution to it all. But, I think I've done it. Can't wait to hear the rest of your story, jillhill.

You make very much sense....a very intelligent friend also told me that....he said to just stick in the direction that you set your course as you can't control things around you or the people that you depend on......so you are on your own and responsible for what happens in your future...Thanks for posting! I hope your journey with Fay is short!
