Over the counter medication substitute for Xanax

Hi, does anyone have any idea if there is something you can buy over-the-counter that is similar to Xanax. I had a prescription for Xanax but I misplaced the bottle somewhere in the house. I had an anxiety/panic attack tonight and I could not find my Xanax. For some reason I am avoiding going to my doctor's to get the prescription refilled. I really want to crawl in a hole and hide.

You can TRY Kava Kava, it would be with the vitamins and herbal supplements. But I think you really need to get your Xanax refilled! When I didn't have insurance for awhile I was using Kava Kava and it helps, but the prescription meds really work better.

Hi, thank you for your response to my post. I cannot recall if I tried Kava Kava before. Does it have any unpleasant side effects? I think you are right, Xanax gives me the best relief and I should go back to my doctor to get another prescription. For some reason between my depression and anxiety, I just am fighting with myself not to go to the doctor even though I know that would be best. Thanks again for your suggestion.

I don't recall any side effects with Kava Kava. The only thing about Xanax is if you use it for too long it can be addictive. My doctor switched me to Klonopin awhile back. But for acute anxiety attacks Xanax is a bit more effective. You might want to talk to your doctor about this too.

Hi Philjas, thank you for your suggestions again. I do need to make an appointment with my doctor and have her re-prescribe the Xanax. I do not think I will get addicted because I only use it in severe attacks and take the lowest dose possible. I appreciate the thought about addiction, though. I know it can happen. Thanks again for your concern.

Oh gosh, I so feel for you momiecat! Hope you've found the bottle by now however, for your information, I found this web site and hope it helps you out in some small way. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't find mine.

To hell with what others think! If they had the problems we have then they can say something and even then, every situation is different. I take xanax too when I need to and so does my mother so I know your situation perfectly! Just be very careful because it's been known to be highly addictive.

Hi CatsandDogs, thank you so much for your post and URL. Xanax unfortunately is a medicine I need to take from time to time. I know when I get into those icky situations I need something to calm me down. I am glad there are people out there who understand this problem and don't just poo poo it. It is very real to us who suffer from this very uncomfortable problem. Thanks again. PS I love your name!
