I like street photography very much, because it shows people's real life and there are lots of such kind of photos that touch me a lot. But recently I have read the article written by Philip Gefter Street Photography: A Right or Invasion? which shows the trouble it gets. On the one hand, people in public also have privacy rights, and some don't want to be photographed. So even in public, photographers should take photos of them without their permission. On the other, as we know, art comes from life, especially like street photography whose subjects are human beings comes real life. So it is hard to decided whether let it work or not. What do you think about street photography? Do you think it is a right or invasion?

The law is if you're outside in a public place, you can legally be photographed with or without your knowledge or consent. If you're on private property, then you have the right to privacy. I think that is a fair law. When in public, yes it is usually best to ask for permission before photographing someone. But sometimes you just see a perfect moment and you want to snap it right away! And if you ever see someone photographing people out in public and you would prefer they not take pictures of you, if you ask them politely chances are the photographer will respect your wishes and not photograph you.
