Should some books be banned?

Today in 1934, the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled against the government's attempt to ban the James Joyce novel "Ulysses." Do you think there are some books that should be banned? If so, what are they? I don't think any books should be banned. Do you agree?

i dont think any book should be banned. they have been trying to get harry potter and back when the dungens and dragons books came out tried to get them banned to. i have read both series and my kids have read the harry potter i dont see anything wrong with them. you always get some one though that doesnt think something is right about something and wants to throw a fit. if a kid wants to read by all means let them so many kids would rather watch tv and play video games then read i mean if a book interrest them and it is age ri9ght them buy the book!!!!! my oldest is 13 and when she was 10 she wanted to read mobydick so we went and got it she loved it. we got all the harry potter books cause me and the kids loved them.

I haven't read either of those series, but I don't want them banned! If you don't like the content of a book, don't read it. Don't prevent other people who do like it, from reading the book.

Given the people who appear to be doing the deciding, I'd say no. Look at http://home.comcast.net/~antaylor1/waterstones100.html, the top 100 books of the 20th century, chosen by one of the largest book chains. Ulysses is at #4. It's not exactly a minor work of literature.

I don't think any books should be banned. Especially in countries where theres freedom of speech, media, etc. A book might offend some people but others it doesnt and just don't read it if it offends you!

I totally agree that no books should ever be banned. Anyone hear of free speech? Every year the American Library Association promotes a Banned Book Week. You should check out their website to get more information about it. It is interesting to see all the books that were banned or people wanted them to be banned. Some of them you never would have guessed.

You're right. I never would have guessed that someone would want to ban The Chocolate War. I read that in elementary school!

Generally, I don't think books should be banned - but a few years ago there were some books put out which were full of racial hatred and encouraging people of a certain race to hate others. I think these types of books are dangerous and horrible, and can influence gullible and needy people. Ulysses should certainly not be banned - just books full of dangerous propaganda.

I do not think hat books should be banned. There should be a place on the shelves for everything, unless it is illegal hate speech, or crimmial writing (how to blow up a...., or something like that). Regular literatue should not be baned y te goernmen. I do not beliee in cenorship.

I agree, no book should be banned. I think parents should pay attention to what their children read. But as an adult, I should be able to choose what ever I want to read. Books are harmless. It is the small mind that is dangerous.
