Moving Measles

I am not a user of these yellow faced measly (as in measles) things that many myLotters like to litter over their discussions and responses. However, I got thinking. Many of these faces have a movement. A tongue that flaps, or steam over the angry face etc. My questions are simple: Do they still flap etc when you shut your computer down, how do you know, and don't they get tired?

They're a lot like the light in the refrigerator, Pike. There's a little guy in there who turns the light on and off, so why not a tiny prson in the computer to give the smileys a rest -- to awaken them when they're needed!

That's my kind of logic Cobra. Only problem is that the guy in our fridge got eaten by the sock monster from the washing machine darn it. No, not darn the socks, does anyone do that anymore?

They go to sleep when you turn the computer off. You know when you've had the computer on too long and they're tired because their spots start to fade. You have to be careful because if they get really tired or upset they turn into sock gremlins and move to the washing machine where they eat one half of each pair of socks. So don't spend too long at the computer.

I would think they'd be allowed a break, p1key! After all, it's hard work, all that flapping, thumb-upping, winking, rolling and general tomfoolery. And isn't there a Measly Union? Don't they have to pay dues and show up for meetings? Well then, they MUST get a break when you turn your computer off, elsewise, they'd all go out on strike and we'd have nothing to express our innermost feelings that words just can't convey, darlin! We can't have a Measly strike, can we? Can you imagine? All those little measly things, picketing, marching up and down the halls of Mylot, chanting Union slogans? Not a pretty site. Not pretty at all.

Free the P1kef1sh one. Except in my case they didn't get employed in the first place Nova. Gosh it's good to see you back. The Measlesters - how's that for a union name for them?
@p1kef1sh (45681)

OK Property and Nova. Youtube dare time. Come up with a measleteer's song and I'll sing it on Youtube. Or better still you can!!!

The Internet fairy has advised that it is the Measleteer's Local 583.97 out of Silicon Valley. i'm not sure if he was pulling my leg though. Seems he started drinking early today, he usually doesn't slur this badly until 3 p.m. local standard time. Plus his hat is on backwards and he has started rapping a Measleteer's theme song. I need a new fairy.

Very good question. Ranks right up there with 'If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him is he still wrong?' If you find out the answer, make sure to post a new discussion ...

The answer is "depends on whose speaking the line?" he answer is that men are always wrong I think. But women let them think that they are right just to keep the peace at times. LOL.

Precisely Momma. There's probably a whole subculture going on right inside our very own computers!

You are so funny at times, you really are. The above 'yellow measles' are the ones I use the most often and yes I guess even if when I shut down my computer they are still sticking their tongues out and flapping away on someone elses. LOL. The good news for you though is only three can be used in any one response. Ellie :D

sometimes they talk back to me!
8 Aug 08
I like to think that they do get a rest as surely all that flapping and such must be hard work especially if the computer is on all day!!! Maybe they have little breask but because they are moving that fast we dont notice. When you turn the computer off they go to sleep, party and do measly things. Maybe goon their computers and surf mylot to catch up on all the latest gossip. I guess to really find out, you will have to shrink yourself and disappear into the worLd of the computer!! Make sure you will be able to find your way back or they might turn you into one of those faces, who knows which one!!!

I'm starting to feel like Alice in Wonderland Cinders. Shame about the legs and I'm not sure about this dress! I do believe that they have an entirely separate world inside our computers. Dancing and singing away. Then it's back to work when we switch on again.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
8 Aug 08
Exactly Cinders. They probably are glad to see the back of us. I suppose that they get a little relief when the screen saver comes up too! Got to go now. The Mad Hatter is calling.
8 Aug 08
It does sound like Alice in Wonderland, maybe you will find the mad hatter and can join him for tea!! Do you think they have families, go on holiday and stuff?? Have you ever thought what the smileys think about what we do when we turn the computer off??? We wonder about them and they may wonder about us!!

Piky ,dont be an old fuddy duddy..the emoticons are all the rage now,and I cant see anything wrong with them!its expression,if you need to express yourself then that is why they are there.Re the latter part of the question lol im ignoring it altogether!!
@p1kef1sh (45681)
7 Aug 08
I'm not questioning their purpose Ruby. Just what do they do when you shut the computer down. Now, he says, adjusting his tie, putting on his Harris Tweed jacket, smoothing down his cavalry twill trousers and checking that his brogues are clean, what exactly do you mean by "Fuddy Duddy?"

I'm sure they (like the little man in the fridge with the torch) take the opportunity of a well-earned rest when we turn our computers off. It's probably a bit like a tree falling in the forest and not making a noise if there's nobody there to hear it ...
@p1kef1sh (45681)

How do we know that tree has fallen if we're not there to see it Guy? Problems problems. LOL.

I don't use them myself. But I don't think they stop doing what they do when you shut off the computer. I've seen the tongues flapping long after the posters have shut down the computer and gone to bed. Let's try a little experiment...you use one of them in one of your responses and I'll watch them for you when you shut down the computer...and maybe Crash will be able to answer you better about them getting tired....or when they get some much needed rest.

I've spent the evening closing my laptop, then opening it very quickly in the hope of catching the smileys napping, but I'm not quite quick enough to be sure of what they're up to. Providing my family don't have me taken away by the men in white coats first, then I'll persevere, and let you know.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

Please do. I want to know what they get up to! Sounds entirely rational behaviour to me.

I think they have little parties when I am not logged in, and come back just when I turn on my computer, much like I used to imagine my dolls did when I was not around. But then, I was a strange child...
@p1kef1sh (45681)
8 Aug 08
I think that may well be the case. We were clearly both strange children!

Oh pikey, you're just being silly. What have you got against the faces? They're so cute! You should try them. I don't know if they keep doing what they do when you turn off the computer. The might. And yes they probably get tired especially if theyhave to do that all the time! I really think you need to try them out, you might just take a liking to them. They aren't measly, they are very yellow and descriptive and mylot likes them to be used to describe how we feel so try them outopal
@p1kef1sh (45681)

They have little fascination for me Opal. They can annoy me at times. But each to their own. I just wonder what they do when we aren't here.
