Promises are never meant to be broken. And truly I don't like when they are. A promise is a promise and when that promise falls through the person on the end of that promise sometimes if not most times gets hurt. I had a boyfriend once who promised me something and it never came through. He turned around and used that line "Promises are meant to be broken" crap and I felt really hurt by it. Needless to say the promise he made me at the time was a big deal and not a little deal. I did however break up with him and I am much happier now that I did that and let him go. I have now found the one that I love who has never promised me something and has not come through.

I feel that if some one makes a promise then they should try hard to keep it, but there are times when it is out of their hands and they have no choice but to break the promise..if it is something they cant help, then that is life.

I don't think they are made to be broken per say. It just happens. I am sure that when people make the promise, they intend to full fill the promise, but there are times when things just happen and the promise can't be filled. I have been in that situation before. And i think that is where the saying comes from. My son for instance, his dad made him a promise about playing paintball with him, going to games and stuff, but then he ended up in the hospital for about 20 days..well now he is just starting to get back on his feet again and my son got mad and keeps saying, "well you promised we would go" or " But you promised". So i try not to make a promise that i can't keep. Especially to my son..It breaks his heart if something happens and i can't keep my promise to him. And in return it breaks mine..

i dont have a child but i would like to share with you .. you may make promises to your child but always tell him "with gods will" meaning that we will keep our promises if there are no obstacle. as a human we can make promises but if god decides otherwise ... meaning we are destined to be somewhere else to do something than we are unable to attend to our promise. hope that your son can start to understand that there is a higher power than human promises

I think breaking a promise is a human weakness, wise people never make promises, infact for whatever they pledge to do, they quickly hasten to add the disclaimer.."this is not a promise... but I will give you some money tomorrow at 3pm! These are people who know promises are easy to break and once they break the promises, they dont look as bad as anybody who made a full bloody promise without any such disclaimers!!

you should know the person who promises to you . for me my husband always promises me things but i do not take it seriously as i know him well, he will forget them. not only to me but sometimes to his friends too . that is because he has many things in his mind .. serious relatinshio with him, he does not have to promise as he knows well that he has to love me. for me i seldom make promises. i will always say "with gods will" as what happens is his will
