Is All of this really Necessary?

I've been working on my new blog, my first one I might add. I'm not sure if I'm doing things properly or not. So to all you Bloggers, please HHHeeeeeeeeeeeeelp! I am going absolutely insane. I've been following a website tutorial but some items are just not lining up. The author suggests adding some meta tags so I can get my blog indexed to the Search Engines. Do I really have to do this? Everytime I try to install the meta tags I was given and then save it, I am given an error code. It tells me the tags were poorly put together. Her next bit of advice is to add my blog to the major search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN manually. See how Blogger is owned by Google, I would think this is automatic or am I just being thick. It's okay you can tell me, I can take it. Now can someone tell me why I have to Ping my site? Exactly what does this do for me? I tried it but I didn't feel a thing, was I suppose to? Any advice you can give me, I will gladly take on bended knee.

I've been successfully blogging now for over four years. In fact, I've made quite a bit of money blogging. I wouldn't worry so much about mega tags. I used to use a pinging service, but not anymore. I did sign up with technorati and that was very helpful for a while. What you want to look for is to link with other blogs. I found this to be very helpful in the beginning. As far as the major search engines, your blog will eventually begin showing up on them once you begin posting regularly, especially if you blog about something that is a popular search. You do want to install a meter to track your hits. I use sitemeter.com on mine. You can also add affiliates, but they never really made me any money. Mostly, I post for blogitive and payperpost. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the good advice. By 4:30 am this morning I kind of figured it out for myself. I'm always looking for something more, especially if it sounds to easy. I can never leave enough alone. I use to drive my college professors crazy. I have already visited site meter. I jusy haven't gotten around to installing it yet. As for the linking with other blogs, I learn that tomorrow, tonight is my time here on myLot.

With blogging you can do as little or as much as you want to do. If you do not want your blog in search engines then do not add it to them, simple as that. My blog is not in search engines, because in the past it has been and I have got a lot of spam, which annoyed me endlessly.

I didn't do any of that...As a pretty new blogger myself, I didn't care for my blog to become so available to the public. My settings are public, but I pretty much blog for my own enjoyment. My family and some friends like to read what I write, but other than that, I don't really care. My blog is set to public, but no one seems to read it. I don't get comments on it. If that's what you are looking for, then you don't need all the megatags and that stuff. Let me know if I can help any more!

Well I'm trying to get loyal readers so I can start making a living on line. I'm only working with one blog right now but I do plan on expanding.
