If this is not a good topic for discussion........ Am I losing my touch?

I have been wondering about this lately and lots of question have been running in my mind. I do hope dear fellow mylotters would bear with me and help me out in figuring this What is a good topic for discussion? How do you choose or consider one posted in here as a good one? Is it the one that gets a lot of responses from the friends or other mylotters, or from both? Do you ever know that your topic will turn out to be a good discussion? If you do, how do you ensure the future ones will be as good as well? Do you feel disappointed if your topic has not been been a good one or among the top discussions? What would you do to make sure that it is a good one the next time around? Lastly, if this is not a good topic for discussion, am I losing my touch then? Thank you for sharing.

I am new to this world of myLot where discussions and proper postings are not gone wasted but rather rewarded duly :D . I am against posting anything that lacks substance. I would rather not reply if I don't have anything useful to contribute. So coming back to your point, I understand you want to invoke a discussion that would bring you more feedback but you have to realize that not all would be interested or would be sharing the same viewpoints as you would. To start a discussion for the sake of getting it to the top would make the discussion less significant. I say post only those topics that you feel strongly about. That is what I am doing. I maybe not getting significant turn out but I know those who are replying to me have genuine interest in my posts and discussions. And that is what I am looking for, not fame but genuine people who show real interest in me and my way of thinking. Of course there are topics that would get you quick responses and greater users return and feedbacks, but those subjects might not be your cup of tea. So to conclude, I would say, be yourself and target those people instead who you share your interest with. Hope you will find this suggestion of some use. Thank you for reading.

Hie Medicguy, whatever you have just said really make a lot sense and you are really on a right track as a newbie I feel strongly on your viewpoints and would like to thank you for sharing. I too normally would give my best on topics that interest me and look out for responses that I want for my posted discussions. And it is usually difficult to point out which topic would be a good discussion but once I have the substance of what I know and shared, I feel I have given a good opinion anyway. And it is an added plus of the package if it is truly appreciated by then. Cheers and best wishes.

I have also thought many times about what makes a good topic when it comes to mylot, and I am not sure if I can help you because I am not really sure myself, and I think you can tell it is a good topic if you get a bunch of relevant responses to the topic you posted on,and I do not think you are losing your touch, and the only thing I can suggest is do topics on things that have happened to you,or that are happening to you because I have noticed people like reading about life experiences.

Hi there, I believe so too and you are right that most people like the real life happenings and you have been posting good topic discussions. It is more of a matter of interest to most people and share what they know best. I truly appreciate people who could relate to the discussions and make efforts to share their viewpoints. Thank you for sharing your views. Cheers and have a good weekend

DUn bother so much about if your discussion is a good one or not.. it's alwasy hard and impossible to please everybody.. WHatever other mylotters think that interest them, they will respond to the discussion.. And so no matter how good is your discussion and they are not interested, things is still gonna be the same ^_^ SO dun despair, just post when u feel like it, and if u are just looking forward to quatity responds, just post those simple and short discussions.. I post very little discussions and most of them only had less than 10 responds, but i dun really mind, because i prefer to respond to others than me starting a new one.. lol

Hi Kun, I do agree most people do like simple & easy discussions and this same interest topics have been posted once to many. But I think most mylotters has not grown tired or bored over them yet. Thank you for reminding me of that and I believe it is also another way of pleasing the mylotters with these questions/topics and I indeed do get the benefits out of them too. Best wishes to you & take care! Cheers,

Dear Desierra, I wish I could answer that. If I could, then all my discussions would have overwhelming responses - however, sadly no. Sometimes I think that the topic is good, however it's not good enough to attract others. And when I thought the topic sounds a bit too tame, yet the responses were good. However, I think discussions that people can relate to, which are not too technical, hard to answer or have to think hard to form a response - these may interest others enough to respond. Have a good day!

Hi dear, you are doing well with your discussions and I am happy for you. I do notice most people like to response to real happenings in life, experiences and simply things that they can relate to as you have pointed out.I face the same thing like you do, it is so unpredictable and sometimes I couldn't manage to give comments to most of the responses. Cheers and have a good day to you too!

There are over 100,000 mylotiers and very few top discussion spots so no not every discussion that you post is ging to reach the top discussions. Any topic that people can relate to or have a gut reaction to is a good topic. What is going on in your life today good or bad can often be a good topic. You have to leave the topic open for discussion and multiple points of view. You can post a discussion that is a great topic and because you said just about all there is to say about it you will get less posters because they feel like they have nothing to add to the discussion. You can't hit one out of the park with every discussion, no one can. Just enjoy your time on my lot and don't worry about the number of responses you get to each topic. Also a hint: Every time that you respond to the responses that you receive your topic goes back to the top of the topic that it is posted in. If you already noticed that that's fine just keep it in mind.

Hi Sharone, what you have said is so true and I would like to thank you for pointing it out and sharing with me. I do notice that about giving comments to my responders and the topics were refreshed back to the top. That is indeed great but timing does matter. I am not too worried about it as long I have at least one viewpoint for my topics. Cheers and happy posting!

There is no sure fire way to tell what a good topic is for discussion. Each person has there own thing on a topic that will work to get a lot of responses. A couple of times I have did a good discussion and got quite a few responses. You are not losing your touch. It is hard to tell what people will think interesting enough to respond to.

Hie Sunshine, thank you for thinking so and sure is difficult to understand what's in people's mind. Most of the time I would think I could get some viewpoints but people just have different interest elsewhere. And surely I have not reach the stage to post something just to please anyone Cheers and have a good day!

Yea. I had discussions with over 100 responses. Since I have been there, I would love to repeat that feat. However, that seems easier said than done. There are some mylotters here who can consistently bring in more than 100 responses every time. Their discussions are indeed interesting and I will usually reply to their discussions too. I will continue to learn from them and hopefully one day be like them. Anyway, your discussion really got me thinking. It's a good one.

Hi Poohgal, nice to see your pink piggy again, thank you for the compliment. Hope the newbies will take note of your response and others too. I think you post nice interesting discussions too Sometimes I just wonder whether some one else has said almost the same things in their responses like mine in those discussions that have more than 100 responsesDoes the one that posted that topic really know and get bored with the same answers..lol. Cheers and happy posting!

To be frank, some responses are short and generic and you can tell that they are responding for the sake of it. Many other responses are sincere and well thought out. I never get sick of reading those.

Any topic that is interesting is good to me, I look through discussions and if it catches my interest then I respond. I also answer all my friends discussions too and they are usually pretty interesting. It is hard to say what topic will turn out to be a good discussion, sometimes what I think would be good turns out to get hardly any responses but what I consider to be daft would get loads"" I do not get disappointed if my discussion fails to get as much interest as I thought it would and I am not bothered that it does not rate in the top discussions either as long as one person responds it is enough for me LOL

Hie Gemini_rose, that's a very cheerful approach and great fun to have. Yes, it is indeed unpredictable what's on people's mind and I think as long I get to post some discussion, I am pretty sure someone will drop by even if it's the only one, it is indeed good enough to get some viewpoint at least Cheers and have a good day!

Personally I like answering discussions that are different (original), ones that make me laugh or well thought-out discussions which are controversial. However, when I'm starting discussions myself I don't think about whether it would be a good topic or not. I just ask questions that I want to know the answer to. When I first joined I used to try to think of topics that might get lots of replies, because I thought that was what you were supposed to do on this site. But the questions I asked sometimes didn't feel natural to me, and I didn't really find this technique very enjoyable. Now I prefer to just post topics which are interesting to me as I think of them, and I don't really worry about how many replies I get.

Hi Liquorice, that is a wonderful approach and I believe it is what that makes most long standing mylotters stay interested in hereand still have fun. Thank you for sharing and best wishes to you. Cheers and happy posting!

I think a topic is good as long as the topic starter is sincere or true in sharing his/her discussion with the people here. I actually find personal discussions or topic that gives useful information, very good. Because I actually appreciate the effort and intention of people who want to help other people through their words or their thoughts. Sadly there are people who do things the other way around. When I put up a discussion, I try to think of what other people's thoughts too. I try to predict what they might feel or how they would react to my discussion. Well, as long as we give our best we wouldn't probably feel bad even if our discussion isn't considered good. Hehe. This is a good topic. It would help others, expecially those who are new to myLot, on how they should raise their discussions.

Hi Selece, thank you for thinking so, I do hope with your responses and others too, the newbies will take note. I do find your topics are good discussions and interesting. What you have been doing is very considerate and caringLately been a lot of repetition in different word sense and shameless copy cats gaining and earnings from others' topics. Lack of good discussions really. I would never response if I couldn't relate to the topic or even post any discussion that no one could comprehendbut it is unpredictable to know what's on people mind. Guess I will have to trust my guts...huh Cheers and happy posting!

Yes, sure is annoying and some mylotters have reported and posted discussions about it. I have not come across one yet personally but have seen something similar and I was not paying much attention to it. I was more concerned to spend enough quality time in here. Some updates for you. Cheers and take care.

Thank you too. Although I haven't had time to post new and interesting discussions lately. Hmm... I have been away from myLot for quite some time, haven't spent a lot of time to look through the site. Is this really happening? Ugh... wouldn't that be plagiarism or something? That's really annoying... when people copy your discussions... Hope myLot can do something about it. It would stain the good environment of this site.
