I cannot believe how calming coloring is and I know this sounds cheesy but Im serious I should do this more often. I am beating myself up because I stopped my hobby of drawing and painting but maybe this is what will get me out of my own judgemental shell, we parents are too hard on ourselves. I found that I like coloring Hello Kitty, lol

I love to color and you are right it is very soothing. I love those big posters they sell in the craft shops. They are very intricate and take a long time to do. They also have books which have geometric shapes, kaleidescopes and stuff like that. People make fun of me, but I don't care. Who makes adult rules anyway?

Man, I could right a book on the dumb rules society has set for me. I know the books your talking about, I check them out every time I go to Micheals and I was thinking the stained glass coloring books would be nice to hang in my daughters room. I totally do not care about that stuff either and If anyone tells me otherwise I know Im a grownup and do not need anyone to mommy me anymore.

Have you had any experience with the stain glass paints? I have used the stain glass books to use as patterns to decorate my windows. They have a book with Tiffany patterns that makes for wonderful window decorations.

oh thats neat, I live in an apartment but I have really wanted to try my hand at stained glass, Maybe I could find something at a thrift store to use--but no, I never thought to use the coloring books as templates, thats a really neat idea, thanx. What kinds of things have you painted from your books?

I agree, I am not an artist but when my daughter wants me to help her color I really enjoy myself.

living it to the fullest - Picture of a silver charm that reads 'happiness' on it, white backdrop
Yea, I stopped drawing 6 years ago and I miss it but I know I have to start with baby steps because its just the older you get (Im 27 in September) the more you seem to judge yourself in this way but I feel like you should do whatever you can to tap into your spiritual self to truly be satisfied, thats why I think its good meditation.

I think there was a study somewhere that showed that coloring was a great stress reducer. One of my kids went to college and the professor gave them all crayons and a coloring book and instructed them that when they were feeling the stress of school and being away from home to color. I love taking the time to color with my little ones. In fact I am the one that suggests that we color more times then they do. Keep of the coloring and treat yourself to a new coloring book and brand new crayons!
