Do you view RSS feeds?

August 9, 2008 5:19am CST
I have just subcribed to two myLot RSS feeds, from the RSS link at the bottom of the page. You can subscribe to Hot Topics and to New Discussions, or you can choose specific users or key words. I had not thought of doing this before, because I get many notifications of new discussions from my friends, but now I will use RSS to find more discussions to respond to. The lists show full discussion posts, not just the title and first few lines, but they don't show the username or the interest it has been started in. You can also incorporate the myLot RSS into your own blog. Do you subscribe to RSS feeds from myLot, or from other sites, and do you find them useful?

I have only subscribed to RSS on one other site, and I don't often remember to see what's on it. It's just like another bookmark really, which shows latest content.

Hi paid2write, yes I do subscribed to Mylot RSS though just the recent discussions. I using firefox 3 and it has this feature to subscribe to RSS feeds, a folder by that title would appear on my book mark menu so I have the latest 10 with just their titles. It auto update every time I visit that bookmark. I have other feeds from other site and I find this very useful, no extra application for it and I keep myself very much updated.

I was unaware about this, i think this is the better way to find discussion and respond them. I have a question does the notification comes to our mail id? I have never thought of doing that, it may because i dont have time to respond to my friends discussions. But some time when i am searching for a good discussion, rss will be help full. i will subscribe the mylot rss. thanks for the information.

I'm afraid to subscribe to it because I have such a slow connection. Only dial-up is available here in the woods. It would probably jam up my machine for days at a time. Just not worth it to me.

I don't have enough knowledge about how it works, but I do know that dial-up can be limiting, so perhaps you are right.

Hi, I've gone through that..and I'm still very confused about the mechanics - I must be tech-challenged! How do you incorporate the RSS into your own blog? Do you input it from your blog or from myLot's end?

I just subscribed to the RSS for my own use. The myLot instructions say that if you have an “RSS aggregator” installed, it works by copy and pasting the url from myLot RSS button into the aggregator. My blog template has RSS set up for other people to subscribe to my blog, and I'm not tech-minded enough to know how to incorporate the RSS feed from myLot.

I am really wondering how can RSS be useful to me. I haven't used it yet. Maybe if I find a site which is really really interesting and that I would like to read everyday, I would use it. I don't see myself using the myLot RSS in the future. But I have the feed in my blog which is the hot topics of the day. Have a nice day!

I've just seen the hot topics feed on your blog and I think it's a really good feature. Every myLot member should read your blog, richie, it's very informative.

Yes, RSS feeds are very useful. This is how blogs find their way into people's computers. But I haven't yet subscribed to MyLot RSS feeds. Perhaps later when I have mastered all the buttons here at MyLot.

My blog also has an RSS feed, so I may have some subscribers who use it to find my new posts. Yes, there are many things to discover at myLot.
