... and how do you feel about them now? I always hated parsnips and just cant bring myself to even try them now. I wasn't keen on swede but I quite like it these days, especially in stews. I'm not sure if celery counts as a vegetable...I think it does, yuck! waste of space! i always loved fresh, raw peas, cauliflower and beans from my dads garden and I'd still be eating them if he still had his garden.

Hi wizzywig! I hated, and still hate Okra. My dad on the other hand loved it, and you could find it in many of his dishes. On my island we have a dish called crab soup, and i absolutly love this dish, and the only time i would not eat it is when Okra is added. And blackeye pea's is also something i hate, same as Okra, can't eat anything that it's in, can't even stand the smell of it.

I really only like the potato, peas, corn, beans i never did like cauliflower, cabbage or brussell sprouts, my mother would always try and make us eat the vegies we didn't like but she gave up on me because I would just be sick if I tried to eat some of them...

Yes, I've done the 'mash it in with the potato and cover it with gravy' trick. It worked for mine as long as they couldn't see the veg that they didnt like. They've both always liked sprouts.

I prefer carrots raw unless they are those little baby tinned ones. I've never had sugar on my tomatoes. I admit, I had to do a look up to find out what brinjals were... I'll eat them if the vegetarian choice is limited when I'm out for a meal but I wouldn't buy them.

Hiya Wizzy, I have always hated Mushy Peas above any other. They are those awful hard peas that you had to soak and cook and they would go mushy if you let them. They are awful and I still remember the smell of them enough to feel sick like the smell of Fish. I have always liked most Veggies except for Radishes if that is classed as one and like you I am no much struck on Celery either. It´s okay in Minestrone but that´s about it. Brussels have to be my favourite greens and broccoli too. I love lettuce and tomato with nothing just on its own also. But Mushy Peas I hate them I really do hate them think I already said that but just to reaffirm my affirmation (grin).

Not overly keen on the mushy peas then????? I remember my mum used to make great soup from those dried peas... in fact, she still does. Everytime my auntie comes up to stay, she gets mum to make some. I seem to recall, they used to put some sort of tablet in the packs... it was wrapped in paper & went in with the peas???

I dont like mushy peas in a tin but I think the ones my mum made soup with were whitworths. They were/are whole peas & she soaks them before she makes the soup.

Hiya Wizz, Don´t remember the bit about the tablet she used to buy them in a pack I think Whitworths did them and soaked them and then cooked them till they were all mushy and served them with Fish that awful Fish. See why I don´t like those Peas anyway. I´m pretty sure your Mom made a great Soup would´nt they be the dried green split peas those are different I love those they are similar to Lentils. They are a bit creamier than Lentils. Perhaps you mean them? The Mushy Peas I mean you could get in the Fish and Chip Shop too with Cod in it´s Batter.

My dad was a gardener too and we had two green houses at home and three allotment plots. It's safe to say that we were over flowing with vegetables in our house, and I didn't eat any of it... or atleast I didn't want to. I hated broccoli, cabbage, cauliflour etc, but now I love them all. I was a very picky eater when i was a child anyway but I do think our tastebuds change as we get older. Now the only veg I don't like is sprouts, but I don eat them if they are on my plate.

Yes, I think you're right about our taste buds changing but I'm still not risking the parsnips!

When I was a kid I hated canned peas.I was staying with my grandfather and we had to eat them. They were so gross. My grandfather made my brother and myself set at the table until they were all gone, every last one of them. I can eat them now but rather have fresh or frozen peas. What is swede. I have never heard of it. I have always liked spinach fresh or canned. So do all my kids.

There are different sorts of canned peas.. I dont like 'processed peas' am not keen on 'mushy peas' but love the little canned 'garden peas' & 'petit pois'. Swede is another name for rutabaga or swedish turnip.
