Celery...love it or loathe it?

To me, celery is one of the most useless foods ever. It tastes vile (IMHO), its stringy and makes me retch - consequently, I never buy it. I know its good for you and supposedly has a negative calorie thing going for it but.....eww....no!

I totally agree and no matter how I try to cook or eat celery I just can't stand it. I also hate how they put such large pieces in soup. I alway have to swallow it whole just to avoid the taste. I never use celery and if I ever have to I make sure it is chopped up into tiny pieces and I cook it so it is soft. There is nothing worse then crunching into it in a salad. I try to pick around it when I have potato salad and sometimes I have even found it in deviled eggs. So celery is definately something I pass on when I am grocery shopping.

Oh yes, when you accidentally find it you have to just gulp & get rid. A few weeks ago, I was at the hospital and had to eat before they'd let me go home. They offered me the choice of corned beef or cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches. No contest for me since I'm not a meat eater but, the 'cucumber' turned out to be celery....bleughh - had to eat it tho!

Hi Wizzywig, I eat celery but only with Primula soft cream cheese in it so it defeats the calorie negative bit really. Its not my favourite but will have on occasion. Cucumber does the same for me as celery does you. My eldest daughter also can't eat it either but my younger daughter will eat cucumber like its an apple. Ellie :D

I'm with your daughter on cucumber, I can just eat it on its own.
