to set the cycle it preferred what would that be? Would you still wake up early and go to sleep early as well? would you sleep all night? WOuld your meals be structures and on schedule? In my case, it would adjust to the cycle I always feel more comfortable with. It would slowly adjust to be more alert at night, waking time would be brought forward for a few hours - around 9:30- 10. I would be awake late at night and take a nap during the afternoon. Meals would be more of when I was hungry rather than I have to eat because it's meal time. My natural rhythm is more of small meals throughout the day with a later lunch and diner. It would probably be annoying to the others around me, because it would be in the middle of the night that I would be filled with energy and wanting to vacuum the house, do the laundry etc LOL THis was always the time that works better for me, and although I can function well with proper normal hours that are what works better with every one's life because of work and the time other people are more active, I always function better at night. So... what would your body tell you?

With some adjustments to fit in with the hubby, I can and do pretty much set my own cycle now that we are retired, and NO I do not wake up early. Nix, nil, no how, no way. I work best in the early morning, but unless forced by circumstances, I don't do mornings on a regular basis. For me flexibility is the key to a satisfying routing. Maybe one week I will stay up until dawn every morning and sleep past noon and another week I will want to see the sun rise and retire shortly after dusk. One thing for sure, though, the more years I live, the faster time zips by and the more I try to pack into each day or night, and each hour, and every minute. Aren't you honored that I spent this minute with you? Rflmao.

I"m so glad to see you back :) And yes I'm honored that you have spent many minutes with me:) Now that I read your answer, I come to think about one thing: Yes I really love the night, but it's true, I might stay late for many days in a row and one day wake up at dawn with a sudden urge to see the sun rise. I"m with you in the flexibility thing, 100%

My body would tell me not to wake it up before 10am and to stay up later to interact with the muse. As I am a writer I tend to do this anyway and I'm lucky because I can. People with more traditional jobs can't do that. I tend to eat when I'm hungry as opposed to a structured meal time. However, if I haven't eaten by 8 its a weird day. I am lucky because in my career choice, as I said before, I can follow more of my body's normal rhythms. I like to nap too although they say you shouldn't if you are trying to fix your sleep cycle, which I am because according to science if I don't enter REM sleep soon I am going to be legally homicidal, that means I will legally be able to get away with murdering people. Not so bad if its George Bush but bad for everyone else. Please don't report me and send me to Gitmo, I am just kidding. Not about the legally homicidal part, apparently that is true but I wouldn't kill anyone anyway, even if it was Bush.

Yes, you are lucky in that your choice of profession works well with you body cycle. Like you I also tend to eat more when I'm hungry, but my body usually as a certain schedule of it's own so the times I am hungry are close each day. LOL it's ok, if you are legally homicidal then they can't do anything to you hehehehe But yes people do need to be able to enter REM sleep no matter at what time they sleep. It does mess up if we don't. Thankfully I usually do, although not always because I have sleep apnea and sometimes keep waking up so much throughout the night that I never have a chance to, but it is rare that this happens. Maybe I should try my hand at being a writer. Either that or move to a different geographical location, one that has at least 7 hours difference from here :):):) Don't worry... I won't report you LOL

I would have myself wake up at 7am every day. I would have breakfast at 7.45am, lunch at 12 noon and dinner at 5pm. I would go to bed at 10pm and sleep soundly all night. I am an early bird compared to a late night owl. I sleep well at night unless I am unwell or feel really stressed. I feel better having an early lunch and not have my evening meal late. I think that it would be great to get up at the same time every day. Then on weekends I could do housework instead of lay in bed until 9am. I like it when it is light outside and darkness makes me feel a bit sleepy. My favorite season is indeed summer because I like the light evenings as well as the warmer weather than the rest of the year. It is wonderful to think of having my body on a cycle but I guess that there will be some times I wish to over ride the cycle because I need to get up at 5am to go on an outing or because my flight leaves at 3am so I have to be awake.

I would wake up at the same time every day, just not at 7 am :) As for sleeping, I sleep really well, once I feel sleepy and go to bed I sleep straight, I don't even know what insomnia is. MY household would be done at night when I feel more energy. I like the sunlight, just not that early. I actually need the sunlight, like every one does. But my body does adjust for that since it's natural cycle would include some day and some night. Just differently than most conventional schedules. I like summer too, although not as much in here because of the humidity. Oddly enough I adjust well to changes in schedule - having to wake up early, or go to sleep even later, or even jet lag.

From childhood I get up early for both my parents don't have the habbit of sleeping until very late in the morning. You know though I get up early in the morning ,I never had a nap in the afternoon rather I felt energetic in the afternoon. But when the darkness falls around I began to feel sleepy and want to go to sleep . Most of my important work are done in the morning .YOU know I really like working with the natrual light .With sun shine and a cup of coffee I felt myself full of energy and efficiency hehe. Looking into one's own body cycle really matters a lot for if not following the fittest schedule then one will never succeed ,i believe.

I was never much of a day person and was fascinated by the night ever since a little kid. Even to study - and retain what I studied - worked better at night for me.

This is hard to answer. If I answered based on before I had kids, I was a night person. I'd get up late and stay up late. For a work schedule, a modified swing shift (like 2 pm till 11 pm) would work well, although a shift like that is murder on a social life and does not work at all as far as kids. I was always more energetic at night, the best time for me would be early evening till 3 or 4 in the morning. NOW though, I get up early in order to get some time to myself. I go to bed before 11 most of the the time. My meal schedule depends when I got up. I always eat breakfast now, so lunch is usually about 3-4 hours after breakfast. I must have switched to being a morning person now because I have more energy in the AM. That's when I do my running around and when I go to the gym. At night I am not necessarily sleepy or tired but I'm more likely to wind down, relax, instead of doing a lot of things.

Yes having kids does change things a bit, but it's more out of necessity and maybe not the body's natural rhythm. At least for me it was. I can find some energy during the day, but it's still at night that I am completely ready to go LOL

i think its is always good if you set up a routine for your body. It becomes easier for the body also to adjust to the same. I would prefer to wake up early and go to the bed also early. I think this is best for you. The routine life makes your mind and body healthy.

I understand your point. But why is it best for you? Because it is a convention? Because it became important that people did so to be able to function in society - have a job, etc- ? There is nothing proving so. As long as we sleep the appropriate time, there is nothing proving that the time of the day we sleep makes a difference other than a social one.
