Campbell Soup + Salsa = Best Cheese dip ever!!!

Just thought I'd share something I have been intending to try for awhile and just never got to. I love mexican cheese dip. But it is expensive. So, don't remember where/how I learned about it but it was one of those things that stick in the back of your mind for sometime - odd, but true, but here's my intentions... I bought a can of Campbell's Cheese Soup while back. Yesterday I finally decided to make the dip. I took the soup, dumped it in the pan. Added my favorite salsa and heated it up. Just nicely warm, it made the best chip dip! I ate the whole can! The only thing that might have made it better was if I had used Velveta Cheese instead of the soup - but at the price of Velveta, the can of soup did very well! Try it and see if you like it! You can add so many other ingredients and just make it to your own taste - add onions, peppers - things like that. Inexpensive, crowd pleaser for your next gathering - well, in my case it was for a night of "I Love Lucy" marathon, but use it as you like!

What a very good idea:) I never tried that - heck I don't think I would even remember to do that - but it makes a lot of sense and I"m sure it will taste wonderfully. I am not the biggest fan of velveta cheese so I think the soup would do nicely. I am copying this discussion and save it so I can try it later on.

IT is really good. Watch how much salsa you put in...I put in a bit to much when I made it today - by accident more spilled in than I intended - and it is a bit "non cheesey" but I like the salsa anyway so it wasnt' to bad - was just hoping to get a cheese fix!! Guess I'll make pizza tomorrow! I don't remember where I "learned" or saw to do this. It's just been in my brain for a long time....makes me realize I should clear my brain a little more often!

LOL I have things as well that are on my mind but I don't remember where I heard about them. I'll make sure to be careful when I add the salsa. I was telling my daughter about it and she said it sounds really good:)

Great suggestion, I wanted to make cheese dip a few weeks ago saw the price of velveta and change my mind. I will give the soup a try.

I love Velveta! Thing is I don't understand why it is so expensive!! HAven't put to much thought into the "whys" but it just seems so expensive. It is a treat that I usually don't bother with! Try the soup - it is really good!

Hey, that sounds so good coffeebreak. I will have to try it. I love dips and I eat them more with fresh vegetables than I do with chips so this would be good for that too. I usually make my own dips but I use foods that are already prepared and I mix them together, just like you did with this dip. I have used ranch dressing and added some mayo and red peppers. I have used french dressing and added green onions to it. And so on, to make different dips. But I can't say I have ever made a dip using a can of soup. But why not. I am sure it is really good. I love the mexican cheese dip too and you are right, it is expensive, so I will try it your way next time and see if it is as good as it sounds. Thanks. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Your friend, Chris

I as surprised it was so good...considering what it is made out of! I just bought the Tostitos brand of cheese dip on sale for $2.75 for a 16 oz jar and quite frankly, it seems to taste the same as the cheese soup and I just add my salsa. I have to watch it tho, I tend to eat that all day long! If it is there, I will eat it! I liked your thousand island dressing and ranch dressing additives for a dip - I will keep that in mind - I am working on a quick and easy appitizer thing for the holidays as the only places we have to go are small areas and not bigger enough for a full sit down dinner. So "stand and grab" is where we will be! Dips will be a good thing!

That sounds really good! I have a recipe for one that uses the spicy velveeta, salsa, and a can of no-beans chili or browned ground beef or turkey with taco seasonings mixed in. You could sub the soup for the velveeta and I bet it would taste just as good!

I do similar with beans for a bean dip - inmy food processor I put a can of jalepeno refried beans, my salsa and process it up, then pour into a baking dish, and layer with cheese, olives, onions and pop into nuker - my famous personal recipe! Loved by all!!!
