I would like to share my favorite online savings accounts . I was checking out a major
financial institutions site a few minutes ago and was appalled at their online savings program .What drew me in was the promise of 3.75% rate of return on their online savings account but what drove me away was the condition that you had to meet to get that high rate of return . You had to have a checking account with them ,which I don't need another checking account on line or not ,big turn off .Another turn off was the 4 dollar a month fee for having account, I didn't read in detail about the fee but when I see the word fee in connection with using a bank or credit card for that matter I walk away . You might be wondering why I am so vehemently opposed to fees , the reason being that there are too many financial institutions who are willing to give their services for free or pay you to use their services .These are not crackpot or washed up companies ,these are in my opinion good ,stable ,trustworthy places to do business with . So i find it ludicrous for a bank or credit card company to try to charge a fee when they are so many free services and businesses willing to pay you to do business with them .Anyways enough of my rantings ,here is my 3 favorite on line savings accounts .
1)HSBC Personal Internet Banking - They are paying a healthy 3.5 A.P.R. up until Sept 15 , no fees , don't have to have account with them and they also offer a credit card that pays 1% cash back on purchases that you can link to your online savings account .
2)ING Direct - A good little savings that is paying 3.0 A.P.R. and again no fees , and you don't have to have a checking account with them .They was offering 25 dollars to first time customers who opened an account with at least 250 dollars ,not sure if that offer is still on the table .
3)e-trade complete savings - Another good little account that has 0 dollar fees.
