My daughter gave the little dog the big dogs pills!

Tonight is very bad. I had to call animal poison control because my 18 year old daughter wasn't paying attention to what she was doing and gave the little dog miniature daschound the big dog's medicine akita (65+pounds). We had to induce vomitting (which by the way you use hydrogen peroxide for his size it was 1 tsp no more than twice) and gauge whether we seen the majority of the pills. Our big dog is on 50 mg of proin 25 twice a day and she gave the night dosage to the little dog. for a dog his size he wouldn't even be prescribed but maybe half a pill and he got two whole pills! So we are monitoring him at home and if nothing happens after 12 hours we should be out of the woods. I am so freakin' ticked at my daughter. She knows better than this. It has already cost us $35 charge for the call to animal poison control and has almost cost us our little dog which is way worse than the money.

I am sorry to hear about your grief tonight. That's a lot of medication for such a small dog, it's good that you did call for help. I am sure your daughter feels so horrible and guilty right now, I remember some things I did when I was younger that will always haunt me, when I was little I decided to flick a light switch that my parents never touched, I just wanted to know what it did, but little did I know, my parents didn't flip that switch because of a nest of baby birds (which I adored) resided in the lamp light outside. I fried the babies and cried for days, it's been so long now and I still feel so bad! I hope everything will be okay with your dog, I am sure he will pull through if he is not doing too bad as of now. Good luck, things will be good.

She does feel bad and I am still mad cause it was pure carelessness on her half. the two dogs look nothing alike so it is easy to tell them apart one weighs 10 pounds the other 65 pounds+. So far he is ok. We got him to vomit quite a bit and hopefully most of the pills came up hard to tell with them being in pieces.

He is doing fine. After making him throw up twice last night and monitoring his heartrate he got through the worst of it. He is no longer red everywhere just his normal self. We are so grateful for everyone's thoughts, prayers and concerns.

I'd definately not let her handle the medicines anymore. It's a good thing that you caught it and were able to get help for the dogs. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

We haven't had a problem since then. It scared her so much she pays better attention to what she is doing. She is almost 19 years old so she should, I say should, be able to handle giving the big dog her incontinense pills but she is so flighty and distractable it is not funny.

AARRGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell your daighter I'm giving her h3ll for not paying attention. That is a big NO NO. 18 yeas old, she should know etter. I know it was probably an "accident" but when it's the life of a person/animal, THERE CAN BE NO ACCIDENTS!!!! Maybe she should pay he $35 charge hersel. You'e riht the illness of the dog is wose than money, but the money still needs to be paid, and she's the one who should have to pay it. I'm praying for your little one.

Thanks for the prayers. He is lying quietly (well ok that is nothing unusual for him i would be worried if he was more active lol) and his heartrate is good only 86 they said if it gets up to 120 to take him to a clinic asap. We are not out of the woods yet ut so far so good. Oh she is going to pay for it believe me.

I know how you feel, just last Saturday night my 24 lb Boston Terrier ate my (or we thought she ate it at the time) my 10 mg Ambien sleeping pill. My dogs are always in their room and in their cages at nine in the evening. This particular night my routine was the same, only the dogs hadn't made it to bed yet. I set my pill out on my nightstand and laid down to read, all of a sudden, Bella was on the bed, then Lucy, the smaller of the five B.T. that we have. The three of us started play and wrestling around, suddenly Bella stepped behind me and when I looked over my right shoulder, there she was with her front feet on the night stand woofing down everything. She was gone like a shot, and so was the pill. When I ran her down she was licking her lips. I thought I would faint. I yelled for my husband and told him what happened. He asked if I really thought the pill would hurt her. I told him I weigh over 200 lbs and it knocks me on my butt, it would kill her. I called my vets house, he wasn't home but his wife was johnny on the spot, 2 TB hydrogen poroxide, wait five minutes for her to throw up, if the pill doesn't come up, repeat. Everything came up except the pill. I was coming through the house to tell my husband we would have to do it again and there lay the pill on the floor by the couch. Apparently she spit it out as soon as she got away from me. She laid on her pillow and pouting and sulking because we traumatized her so bad. Never again will I take a pill out of a bottle until I'm ready to put it in my mouth. I'm glad everything turned out well for your dog. Nothing worse then the guilt we suffer when we accidently harm one of our pets.

Oh i am so glad your little boston terrier is ok and didn't take that pill. It is awful to make them throw up but you do what you got to do.

Oh that poor little dog! I know how bad you must feel! I hope he's ok. I once had to call animal poison control and I know all about the fee! I though my cat Star had possibly eaten part of a ciggarette when he was a kitten. Turns out he didn't but it was a scare anyway. I ended up having to take him in as an emergency and I don't remember what happened because I was so upset that I blocked it from my memory! I know it cost alot of money! Anyway, your little dog will be ok because you acted really quickly. At least you found out what your daughter did. She could have not told you and then it would have been too late. So be glad that you acted quickly and saved his life.
