I remember eating these the first time I went camping as a Girl Scout. I thought I was in heaven. Then I didn't have one until later in life, our family was not the outdoors type - LOL. Now that we camp, we always have them one night each trip. The girls like roasting the marshmallows and will take one bite of the S'more and they are done. So Mom gets to eat them. LOL I still like them but they are not as sweet as they use to be. Is it me or is it the ingredients? LOL When: Always on August 10th S'mores are a favorite campsite treat for young and old kids. If you're at a campfire, chances are, there's S'mores. Sticky and gooey, and loaded with sugar and carbs, S'mores are nothing short of delicious. Who was the first person to create S'mores? We don't know. But, we're all sure glad they did! National S'mores Day celebrates this tasty summer treat. It's appropriately placed in August...campfire prime time. But, don't limit your consumption of S'ores to the campfire. They are popular with kids year round, and can be baked in the oven or microwave. The origin of S'mores dates back to the 1920's. It's believed the recipe was first discovered by Girl Scouts. S'more folklore suggests that S'mores got its name right by the campfire. After eating one, young kids chanted "gimme some more!" While much is written about National S'mores Day, our research has been unable to verify that this is an officially recognized national day (which requires an act of Congress). Don't let that stop you from celebrating this day with a few S'mores. For our international friends here is how to make S'mores: Ingredients: Chocolate candy bar Honey Graham Crackers Marshmallows Instructions: Break off a square of Graham cracker Add a piece of Chocolate. Toast a big marshmallow over the campfire. Add the hot marshmallow. Top it with another graham Cracker. Eat , savor and enjoy! Note: You can make S'mores in the microwave. Just put them together and pop them into the microwave on high for 15 to 20 seconds. Here is a neat link with some recipes, etc about S'mores: http://www.swycaffer.com/divpeg/August/smores.html

I really enjoyed the smores also. I havent had one for awhile but they are the perfect camfire treat. I'm not that much of a fanatic that i would buy one of the smores kits that they sell in the winter time. My son is going to be twenty shortly so I dont think he's too much of a smores fan anymore. Thanks for the recipie. If we get into a smores mood this winter we will give it a whirl.

Hi kimbers867. My son used to love s'mores as a youngster so we made them once in awhile. I think it would be fun to make them in the microwave. I don't think I ever tried that! What, you mean we can't get an act of Congress to declary August 10th National S'mores Day??!! I am shocked and appalled. I mean, that is just wrong! Tee hee, take care.
