Many parents now are problematic because they children are so addict in playing online games. They can no longer concentrate on their studies and other activities. If you are a parent, will you encourage your children to engage in sports more than to be hook on computer games?

I think I'd encourage them to think for themselves and develop problem-solving thought processes. Oh wait, don't video games do that?

I'm talking about video games. Halo. Counterstrike. World of Warcraft, whatever. Spatial perception, hand-eye coordination, logical reasoning and puzzle solving, social interaction. You have seen a video game, right?

This is one dis-advantage of internet. On line games is not bad. But the problems is many teenagers are addicted to it. The users are the problems, they can't control their addiction. If they only limit their play for one hour or two hours everything is okay. But temptation is hard to resist right? I want my kids to be in sport rather in the computer. Much better that way.

We should control our children then. Because as parents, we should be the one implementing the discipline to them .

I built some software to help me set time limits for my kids on the computer, and it has ended the fighting over computer time in our home. I set the limits (like 1 hour a day) and the software enforces them, giving kids reminders about how much time is left. Give it a try and let me know what you think. I'm trying to sell it but you can download it for free for 30 days. www.TimesUpKidz.com

My children are addicted to surfing the net and playing online games too. They're not much into sports either. However, with this knowledge, we set a limit to their computer use everyday. We give each one of them an hour everyday to use the computer as much as they want to, whether it be for their school work or for their entertainment. Plus, we have their PC close by ours so that we can constantly monitor the sites that they visit every time they are on the computer. All my kids enjoy using the computer. I cannot insist that they go into sports when they have not interest in it at all. Instead, we encourage them to learn new things as they use the computer, and well, since they love using the computer, it's so easy for them to explore and discover, and enjoy what they are doing all the time!

Scheduling will help to discipline our children in the use of computers.

I do encourage my children to do sports. I have 6 year old twin boys and they're about to finish their first year of soccer. During the school year they take swimming lessons and skating lessons. My husband is hoping they'll want to do hockey like he did, but I'd like to leave it up to them.

my child is only two years old. so we play mostly balls and running around. when he is old enough i like to play with him with my PS too. but we will still play sports for that is good for the body. if we can make our child/children have a balance playing just like with food too then i think it is okay. i like him to learn to swim too.

I always encourage my children to get active in school outdoor activities. I have to monitor them when they get close to computer games. I will let them play if the games are helpful to expend their mind or the game that can help them in their study. I will prohibit them from gambling online.

I actually was totally against video games. Then, for some odd reason, I got my son a handheld game to use while we traveled to see family, friends, etc. I was diagnosed with cancer 1 month later, and that video game was a blessing!! My then 9 year old has something to keep his mind occupied during all the travel to treatments, etc. He has always been into sports, and always been an outside person. And now he does both. I am sure my opinions on the subjects played/play a part in his decisions, but the decisions on what to do with the time are mostly his. (of course I have set time limits on video games, now that we also have one hooked up to the tv, and on computer gaming).

I don't think sports is necessarily better than video games. Video games encourage skills, ability to play alone, and strive for your personal best. Sports encourages fitness, but it also encourages competition with others and dependence on other people. I WISH my son was as much into video games as he is into sports.
