I was frequently called a bookworm when I was a child. It refers to someone who can get his or her nose in a book and be oblivious to whatever is going on around them. No, I was not offended, but some children are, especially boys.

I have several friends who are bookworms. They love books. They love reading. However bookworms are not necessarily nerds. Reading is a hobby that some people enjoy and it's also a learning experience for most people.I am not really much of a book worm but if I was i wouldn't mind being called a book worm hehe.

I could be called a bookworm...I know my mom would have been a bookworm. No, it doesn't mean that we are addicted to books. It means we love to read and enjoy the activity. Some people will read all fiction, others all non-fiction. Others might read a little of each. All kinds of genres are popular with all kinds of people. Some read much more than others. I did a lot more reading before I needed glasses. Ever since then I don't read as much for some reason. I think it is because I like reading while lying down on the couch or in bed most and making a day out of it maybe. But with the glasses, they get pushed to one side when I am lying down because I always rest on my side. Then the bifocals don't line up right so I can see to read. LOL I do a lot of reading in spurts now. For instance, I might read 2 or 3 books one right after another, then take some time away from reading, then go back to reading again. Being called a bookworm is not a derogatory comment. It just refers to someone who likes to read a lot.
