When you travel what type of hotel do you stay in and why? I resently returned form a trip to San Francisco and because of a change in flights I had to spend the night in a Chain Motel before I got to my 5 Star Hotel. In my opinion the Chain motel was a better deal and offered more except for location. What type of Hotel do you perfer to stay in?

I like to stay in locally owned accommodation like a guest house, a beach hut or a tree house. I don't like to stay in hotel that is owned by an international chain or has a overseas owner. The reason for this is that I like to see the money I spend staying in the country I am visiting. It then gives money to the local people and benefits their community. The best place I stayed was a tall tree house with a thatched roof in Belize. From there I went on an exciting cave adventure that involved swimming and much climbing. I stayed in fales, traditional open buildings on stilts on beaches in Samoa. It was so relaxing to hear the waves gently crashing the shore and feel the soft ocean breeze. For the equivalent of ten pounds a night I had a place to stay in paradise with three meals a day included. I used to like to stay in backpacker hostels when I was younger where I met interesting travelers from all over the world.

The last two times I spent in an upscale hotel I found that I was paying almost twice as much and getting less for my money. In New York City we paid $200 a night for the room and $35 a day for parking. The hotel has a large lobby, an expensive restarant, and every time I turned around I was tipping someone. If I wanted internet I had to pay extra. What I did have was a location that was Close to Times Square (8 blocks away), near Central Park ( 2 blocks away) and near all major attractions. A friend stayed at a Major Chain motel and paid $96 per night, Free parking, free hot breakfast in the morning, free internet, free pool and no tipping. He had to take an air conditioned Coach bus into the city (10m minute ride) and started his day at the Port Authority with buses and subways to all of NYC.
I prefer the Chain motels myself.

Hi, when I travel I usaully stay in 3 stars hotel, anyway I search them in internet, I look at the place at what they offer, the price hier in Italy is different town by town, more expensive in city like Rom, Florence or Milan, hier for a 3 stars for a bedroom for 2 with creakfast you can pay 200$ or more, but in other little town you can have the same for a price beetwen 60 and 130$
Nun
ps(but I have to say that with euro (202) the price encrease a lo..and that without reason, only speculation..)
