If you had of known about Edward's affair back in Oct. Would you still have backed him as the DNC nominee?

I did support John Edwards to begin with. I even gave money to his campaign. Then the debates started and he very quickly turned me off. His patronizing attitude toward Hillary Clinton made me dislike him. After that, I was for Hillary Clinton all the way. If I had know about his affair, it wouldn't have made any difference. Why should I care? I'm not his wife. In my opinion, she's the only one who needed to know. I personally don't base my political opinions on personal matters.

An affair is a breach of loyalties. Why is it that people think that a politician whose spouse can't trust them can be trusted by everyone else? A person who would betray their spouse would just as easily betray their country.

Talleymommy, you say Bush did not lie, he just said he didn't want to talk about it. Let me present this: If a candidate, or former candidate, like John Edwards had said, "I don't want to talk about it," and it was found out later that he did have an affair, wouldn't everyone, including the media, say that he lied?

"All I will say is this: It's sad that you think everyone is a liar and so that makes it okay..." I never said that everyone was a liar. I said that anyone running for public office lies. I said that all politicians lie. When you find an honest politician, please let me know. I'll personally lead the parade for them.

I didn't back him anyway. Given he was the least supported candidate of the three, there wouldn't have been much point. And he's long out of the running, so he can sleep with as many people as he wants as far as I'm concerned.

I did not back him, but I think if his wife has forgiving him why are the media in his business. I think adultery is wrong, but I also think it is private affair between a couple.

So everyone in the world can trust him, just not his wife?

If a man is not honest then he is not honest. If he belives that lying is moraly correct then he is saying that he is willing to lie when it suits his purposes. He also embarrased and humiliated his wife and he is suppose to love her. If he cannot be honest with her, what makes you think that he will be honest to you? Most of the people who be putting their trust in him would be strangers to him. It also was not confessed to her in a timely manner, she was already aware and had confronted him. If she had not known maybe he would have never told her and she would have found out from the news? A liar is a liar and he only told the truth by force and because he was busted. He did not try to be open and honest on his own , he waited so long that he let others tell her? What a rotten thing to do!

That's what I don't get. If the guy who makes our burgers lies to us, we freak out and demand results, if our politicians lie to us, we shrug it off and re-elect them.

Exactly, we are just in this acceptance of their bad behavior so much so, we have been desensitized to it all....its expected of them to do these things instead of them setting the examples for the country like true leaders should. If they cant live with decent morals and set good examples then their are other jobs for them....There has just been so much of this,,,,they will lie about something 40 different ways before they will tell the truth about anything.

"If the guy who makes our burgers lies to us, we freak out and demand results, if our politicians lie to us, we shrug it off and re-elect them." That depends entirely on what the guy who makes our burgers lies to us about! Annie

Why not? So he cheated on his wife. Big deal! The only thing that makes him is (a) someone his wife cannot trust to be faithful and (b) a politician.

So the Republicans who have been put out of office because of affairs got a raw deal?

I guess so. No one I know would expect any Republican politician to be truthful to anyone, including their wives

They backed Clinton when he admited to his affairs. It seems like if they are straight up about it the people accept them. If they lie then the people turn from them. I still do not understand why when Clinton was running for president the people accepted him while just four years earlier Gary Hart had to drop out of the race because it was discovered he was having an affair. What happened in those four years that made people change so much?
