Hello friends and fellow mylotters. This is a follow up from my previous discussion "Wish us luck". As we are filing up our application form as dependents for my husbands' nomination for permanent residency in Canada. We got confused as to what a certain question there. We got confused to what is the difference between common law partner and spouse. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the two? HUGZ!

So you are now really so busy with your application ha! I'm happy for you. Well regarding your question dear: Common Law Partner are for those people living together without the blessing of a marriage. So they are for the live-in partners. While spouse are for married people and that of course refers to either a husband or wife. Hope I have helped you. And again my best wishes on all your plans! Cheers!

Thanks my dear salonga. You really have helped me understand. I really appreciate your effort. By the way, I've mailed the application form and the necessary documents yesterday and my husband will be receiving it by tomorrow. I really do hope that he will be approved so we can join him there. HUGZ my friend!

I think it's referring to just bf/gf, cohabitating only, as partner.. And spouse is for being married?? That's what i think only..

Commonlaw partner is referred to when you have never legally married, but you've been together past a certain amount of time. I think it's 10 years but not every state or country recognizes commonlaw. I think you would answer that he's your spouse lol.

Hi dhangski, I can tell you that a spouse means husband or wife who are married couple and common law partner means couple living together but not married. I hope you understand all that and I wish you all the luck in the world. Love & HUGZ Tamara

the spouse means wife or husband ,the common law partner means woman/man with whom a man/woman lives,as if she/he were his wife/husband ,but without marring her/him.

Spouse is when you're actually married. Its the better deal 'cause then you have all the committment without which its too easy to cop out or renege on duties, including love. If he's that good now and you are planning a permanent life like this why not marry ? You'll be even with both God and man.

as i can remember, common law partner are those living together without being married. my wife and i live together for 8 years, so we were common law partner, but still called mister and misis by others. after 8 years we got married through civil rites, so at that time then on, we are spouses. do i get it right?
