Etsy.com oftens has very helpful programs on their site and later today, at 4:15pm EST, Etsy will have what they call the "Newbie Chat". 2 of Etsy's administation will host the chat (you'll need audio and it's possible it will be a live web-cam chat)and answer any and all questions about opening a shop and what to do when you've just started. These chats are very helpful and even though I've been on Etsy for over a yr, I still attend these chats as often as I can, hoping to pick up a new tip. Also tomorrow is critique day. Etsy hold two seperate critiques. The first is held at 5:00pm EST with the ladies of Etsy Labs and the 2nd will be with Etsy admin, Michelle at 9:00pm EST. Even if you don't want your shop critiqued, attending these critiques will give everyone valuable info on how to improve every aspect of your shop (get there at least 15 minutes before the session if you want your shop critiqued) I try to attend these critiques each week because the info that is shared is so valuable. Many of Etsy's top stores often attend to help out and the info shared is definately worth the time spent. Michelle has been known to spend a few hours in her sessions, but I think whether you're a newbie or an experienced Etsy member, you'll come away with several new ideas on improving your shop!

I didn't know Etsy offered this kind of help during the time I was there with a shop. I wasn't involved enough on the site since it was done more or less just to see if my crafts would sell. I didn't do well so my shop was closed and I moved on. Guess I wasn't serious enough and didn't have the confidence to push my site. Much success to you, carolbee

I think they do them around the same time every Tuesday. There is a very good critique session tommorow (actaully, there's 2 sessions) and I think the info they share in those classes is very valuable. I'll try to post the next chat as soon as it's listed. Thanks for your response!

I find these sessions to be helpful and I still attend as often as I can. There's a lot of great info in these "classes". If you can get to one of the critiques tomorrow also, go with a notebook. You'll probably write down a lot of info. I often attend the critiques because they are just loaded with great tips that I try to incorporate into my shop. They often talk about pricing, photos, listing tips, your shop profile, even promoting tips... so much great info! I've already marked down in my calendar about tomorrow's critique session with Michelle...if you see me there, shout out a hello! Thanks for your response!

Man my stupid computer went down! How does one find out when these things are set to happen? I really don't want to miss the next one.

I missed it!!!! Oh i am so upset! I have been wanting to start an etsy shop but have been much too intimidated by the threat of just losing a bunch of money (that I cannot afford to lose!) to a hobby that i thought was going to be really fun and neat. But, I am sure that there will be a next time! Thanks for the heads up and please keep up posted on upcoming awesome events like that!

No, you didn't miss it. The session will start later this afternoon, in a little less than 2 hours. These are very helpful sessions and I think you'll find that starting a store on Etsy is less expensive than you think! I'm pretty sure you can open your shop, have a customized banner and avatar created for you, and list 10 items...all for less than $20 (and probably closer to $10 than $20) My banner and avatar cost me around $10 (probably less) and each listing costs only 20 cents and they remain in your shop for 4 months or until sold, whichever comes first. Check out today's session if you can, I think you'll find it worth your time if you're interested in selling your handmade items on Etsy. Thanks for your response!
